3000:1 Contrast ratio LCD

Whats the deal with these....insane contrast ratio. The price is super cheap considering, so what gives? Anyone have any info?

Newegg

Circuit City and Best Buy near me have this model for 399$.

Edit: title should be 3000:1.

It's a TN panel. They have inflated specs in some areas, like contrast and response time, but suck ass in others. Only displaying 18-bit color and using dithering to fake 24-bit is a massive trade off for those other specs.

I have not seen that particular one, but I've never seen any TN panel I thought was worth a shit. I can't imagine it's higher quality than the Dell 2007 even if you get screwed and end up with a PVA instead of a S-IPS. Viewsonic also made a good ~20" widescreen in that price range, but the vx2025wm has been replaced with newer models and I haven't seen any of them or heard if they are an improvement anywhere else.

I have an LG L204WT(21" widescreen) and I think its pretty amazing. Its also a TN panel with specs of 2000:1 and 5ms response. Only thing I have noticed thats not quite right is sometimes on full white screens with small black font there looks to be a little red around the edges of the font. Besides that its about the best $300 I've ever spent. Blacks are spectacular, I've never noticed any background light bleeding, and it plays movies better then my Sony Wega TV. I currently play pc /360 games on it and watch dvds since I don't have a tv in my bedroom.

I did some research online and look at different monitors in the store. To me it was a hard item to buy cause alot of them look so close and there is such a huge variance in price. While what Vorph said is the common marketing talk I didn't see it when I compared monitors in person. Or at least the difference didn't seem to be worth the price.

If you're looking for a LCD TV. Look here: AVS Forum - Home

The information here from people's experience's here is overwhelming. I was initially going to buy a new TV the week of the Super Bowl but ended up holding off because of some car stuff that took precedent, but I'll definitely getting a new tv next year. My 15 year old TV I have now needs to be retired.
