HD Television/antenna?

I have a 50inch Samsung DLP television and am curious about some HD stuff...

I remember when I purchased the television the guy at the store told me that I could pick up general HD channels via a antenna that I can purchase at say a radio shack...

anyone know anything about this or what I will need to buy to do this, or even heard of anything like this?

I would like to pick up some HD channels, like say FOX and stuff, and not have to pay for a monthly box just to waste 90% of it on HD home and gardening through the local provider here.

anyway, anyone have any input?

Here's a decent site I looked at when I was thinking about purchasing an HD antenna. Can find out which stations you'd be able to pick up OTA in your area as well as some information about some brands.

I picked up a $15 antenna when I first got my television and was able to pick up FOX and ABC no problem. Once and a while the image would go out or the sound would be choppy/missing, but not a bad deal for free HD signals.

Question about built-in tuners:

I just got a new tv (42" panasonic plasma) and it's got a built-in hd tuner. However, it seems that I can only get two HD channels (abc and cw), and it seems like they are only available when my tv is plugged straight into my cable. Once I hook up my digital cable box, it seems like the channels are no longer accessible. Anyone had this problem before? Any workaround?
