+4 Internets | This has got to be one of the saddest, most FUCKED-UP stories I've ever come across... damn. **** Woman Becomes Quadruple Amputee After Giving Birth - News (with a video) "ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Sanford mother says she will never be able to hold her newborn because an Orlando hospital performed a life-altering surgery and, she claims, the hospital refuses to explain why they left her as a multiple amputee. The woman filed a complaint against Orlando Regional Healthcare Systems, she said, because they won't tell her exactly what happened. The hospital maintains the woman wants to know information that would violate other patients' rights." |

+29 Internets | I am trying to think of a scenario that'd explain how explaining why someone became a quadruple amputee would violate another patient's right... nope, can't come up with anything. |

| Please explain how this is a "junk lawsuit." Please explain to me how this is a junk law suit? Ok first, "Necrotizing fasciitis" Necrotizing fasciitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is a rare infection caused by 'Streptococcus." Streptococcus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Second, based on the information provide, "Necrotizing fasciitis," can be prevented with early intravenous antibiotics, if detected. Third, it either starts with a soar throat or in an area which suffered trauma. Fourth, "Necrotizing fasciitis," "With progression of the disease, tissues becomes swollen, often within hours. Skin color may progress to violet and blisters may form." Based on this simple information alone, this is clearly a case of negligence. One layman basis of a Tort Law Tort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is an individual participating in one activity does not assume unreasonable breach of duty by one person to another. If "Necrotizing fasciitis" shows signs within hours, why did they wait 12 days to transport her? How did Streptococcus manage only to attack her lower portion of her limbs? Did she decide to chew on her toes and fingers? Seriously, this women was exposed to large amounts of Streptococcus, it should not have taken 12 days to recognize this, it is recognizable by blood cultures. As stated, this is a clear case of negligence. This women didn't anticipate going to a hospital, giving birth and contracting Streptococcus which caused "Necrotizing Fasciitis" in completely un adjacent parts of the body. |

| While at work, I decided to visit CNN.com and make sure Armageddon wasn't happening yet and I came across this story: Rape victim¿is jailed on old warrant - CNN.com Basically, a woman went to the police to report that she had been raped. They put her in jail because of an old warrant for her arrest, and while in jail, she was refused the morning-after pill, allegedly due to 'religious convictions' of a jail employee. Sometimes I'm just amazed at the extreme lack of humanity in contemporary society. Though, both of these things happened in Florida, and if we can't rely on them to count, we sure as hell can't count them to act civilly. |

+6 Internets | My father works in flo cytometry (not sure if I spelled that right) and he's been in the medical field in some way ever since he got out of high school. He told me once about this case in Dallas, which sorry I don't have a link to. A guy, about 55ish year old, has bladder cancer. Dr Death says they need to do surgery to remove the cancer. Mid surgery, Dr Death decides that the cancer has spread and that he has to remove the patient's whole situation down there. Like, everything, turned him into a Ken doll, pissing out of a rubber tube the rest of his life. BTW, tests later confirmed, the cancer had not spread. He did sue, and did get millions.... but really, at that point who gives a shit about money? |
