| Comment on my build - Buying Tonight! Fuckers at the computer building forum aren't really responding... Here's my build: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16813128012 eVGA 512-P2-N573-AR Geforce 7900GTO 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16814130065 OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16817341001 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16819115003 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ - Retail http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16820231065 Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16822144417 ViewSonic Q19wb Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16824116014 I'm good on keyboard, mouse and case: Here's the case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16811119029 I don't plan on overclocking at first. Couple questions: I'm thinking about SLI one day, hows my mobo? Will I be able to use my Win XP disc that originally came with my pre built a few years ago? I'm going to recycle my old WD IED hard drive and add it as my storage drive, but would like the OS and games to be on my new hard drive. Will I just need to manually delete the games and reinstall onto the new HD or is there an easier way? I have thousands of MP3's and pictures on my old hard drive that I'd like to leave as is. Other than that, hows the build look? If anyone has suggestions on how to make it a bit cheaper that would be nice. Last edited by yorikatl on 10-18-2006 at 12:17 PM

| Looks good man. Your monitor link doesn't work, replace it with this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116014 Edit: Video card link doesn't work either. Are you sure you don't wanna hold out for a DX10 compatable card? I probably would, but that's a personal thing, and you may not want to wait ![]() Last edited by Shoeby : 10-18-2006 at 06:54 PM. |

+5 Internets | I read somewhere, forgot where though, that the first round of DX10 cards from Nvidia are due out around Nov. 7th. Might want to wait? Wish I could find the article, because it also mentioned that Nvidia isnt going with the recommended unified shaders that vista wants, and is doing their own thing. So....I dont know how thats going to work out. Pretty sure though that the 8 series will blow everything around currently out of the water, just like the 7 series did to the 6 series. |

I was going to recycle old coolermaster case: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=-129 I'm thinking now it would be nice to be using USB2.0... That's really a shitter about the old xp disc, I'm trying to find a way to make it work. Seems like I should be able to clone my old harddrive onto my new one and then repair windows...

| Hard to say no to that case. I have the same one in black. I still love its looks. A current case that may interest you is the Silverstone TJ-04. The silverstone has similar looks but has 120s so it should be quieter. Only thing thing is that it's not the same thick HQ aluminum. The problem is that XP will remember the registered configuration for that key (if you have a single license key). So, when you make a new computer it won't match the old key. XP is still pretty cheap when you consider that without it you couldn't get anything done. |

Found an OEM xp sp2b for 89.99... they have all the support online anyways so shouldn't be a problem... although this is my first build. Should be fun. I'm still kinda curious about the harddrives. I need to figure out how to move all my stuff to my new hard drive, reformat the old, then move the music/picutres and crap back to the old and just keep the OS and games on the new. Use the old 120gb ide wd for storage...

| Well, remember that you will have a bunch of 2.0 usb ports on your motherboard in the back. Perhaps I am mistaken aren't they 2.0 when you plug them into 2.0 ports on a MB? Why reformat the old? Just boot up and install XP on your new drive and use your old drive as is. If you really want to reformat then just drag and drop after you are done with the initial install. You have a sweet set of stuff. Don't rush! Thats how bad things happen. I took a stupid amount of time on my first build. Use a static wristband and your static bags. |
