30 inch Dell monitor strictly as a television?

I called Dell and from what i understand there wouldnt be any issues using this monitor only for console gaming and dvd playback using the component and HDMI inputs. After browsing bestbuy.com, i see that the LCD 1080p tvs start around 2k. the Dell is 1.4k and does 1080p. I have a Dell 20 inch widescreen and I love it. Perhaps I am missing something obvious here as to why I should not buy a 30 inch from Dell?

Aren't the 30 inch monitors even higher resolution than 1080p? You may run in to resolution issues since lcds aren't great at their non-native resolution.

Well, Best Buy is overpriced but even so I know they sell the 37" 1080p Westinghouse lcd tv for like $1500 maybe. Reliable online retailers or something like Costco would be the way to go. Anyway though, does the Dell 30" monitor even have component inputs or hdmi? I know it has DVI and usb ports but it's only a single DVI port I think, so first off you'd have to be swapping between computer/console/dvd player or whatever you're using if you're using multiple devices. Although, there are cables like hdmi(your dvd player) to dvi(the monitor) I'm not sure about component to dvi.

I'm pretty sure those monitors are picky about being used in their native resolution though, so you'd be downscaling to 1080p and whatever your console can support. I'd really just go with a TV as a monitor unless you've got a beefy comp that can take advantage of a res that high(2560x1600) and continue to keep it up to date enough to do that. I could be completely wrong though, my main point was that you can get a 1080p tv for less than 2k, although it may not be a top name brand.

I believe the 1080p tv you are talking about is the Westinghouse LVM 37w3 it has actually gotten some pretty good reviews.

I have the Westinghouse LVM 42w2 set up as my computer monitor and I've been loving it so far. All the reviews are right. The only complaint I have is the backlight is WAY too bright, but there is a setting to turn it down. Factory default is 100... and I have mine set to 10 :P

Wow, HD-TVs are cheap in the United States. I was just looking at Newegg and if you don't care about getting HDMI, or even better can settle for 780p you can get a nice sized television for a few hundred dollars.

Here in Japan the prices are like three times as much.
