Quick Computer Question /gasp

I just built a new system. installed its fine works great grand super.

With it I bought my first sata hd partitioned and made the first part my windows drive. With this im still using an IDE HD since im a gamer with alot of space taken up. The IDE HD is listed as first to boot of the two and when I changed the sata to boot first windows fails to run acting as if files are missing. If i revert the setting so the sata is 2nd to boot then its fine. I also had to grab some old files on other IDE HDs and doing so pissed the SATA drive off again. the Mother board is an Asus A8N-E is that helps.

It runs fine it just annoys me that sata isnt listed as the first HD to boot and the fact that adding in any other IDE drives causes more issues really freaks me out. Any tips or hints? Thanks for any of you that have adivce to offer.

No hints or tips other than I have an A8N based board and a SATA windows drive. After installing, plugged the IDE's from my old machine in and had no problems. Check to see which SATA controller the drive is connected to perhaps? There's two on those boards.

I have 4 Sata Controllers and Im in the first one. After posting this I read some more and it seems installing windows without the IDE plugged in is the way to go to stop this problem. Since its not causing any errors until I mess with HDs I think Ill leave it as is and just remember to unplug my IDE next time I need to reinstall windows.

Yeah thats how i've done it, mainly as my IDE's are slow old 8GB things and only needed them plugged in to copy data across.

When I mentioned controllers, I didn't mean the ports - there's the NForce controller and a second controller thats welded onto the PCI bus that handles software RAID5 - but crippled by being on the PCI bus, and also needing drivers for Windows. Just use the NForce one.

(My board is the A8N Premium, the second controller may not be present on other models).
