| iPod Video Converters I've been having a hell of a time trying to convert some of my DVDs and video files on my computer to iPod format for my video ipod. I've tried just about every single program (cucusoft, PQ, xilisoft, M2, media studio, etc.) and every single one either results in being unable to read the DVD due to a copywrite protection, or it will convert but the synching is off by half a second, or some other combination of bullshit. I've been at this for days now and I'm seriously frustrated. It seems the easiest way is to use Quicktime Pro, but QTP won't even open DVDs or recognize many file types. Any good guides/programs/etc would be really helpful. I mostly want to rip and convert some DVDs from my personal library of real DVDs and convert a couple old concert videos or funny things. Nothing overly complicated.

| If you can find a copy of DVD Decrypter it's a great piece of software to rip .VOB files. Really the best way to do it is to use 1 program to rip the .VOB files to uncompressed AVIs, then another to convert the .AVI to the .m4v your iPod will like. If you don't mind spending a fairly small amount of money, the 2 programs I would recommend are the ImToo DVD Ripper, $35, also rips to WMV, DivX, etc. and QuickTime Pro, $30, to convert it to the iPod. I use ImToo to rip my DVDs directly to WMVs to put on my Treo 700w and it works really well. When I've put stuff on iPods, I've used QT7 Pro and it also does a pretty fantastic job. |

DVD Decrypter is still available at Doom9, despite the best efforts of Macrovision Europe (the fuckers who threatened to sue the guy who wrote it, and in the end stole his software as settlement). If you have any problems with DVDs that use ARccOS, you can also try DVDFab Decrypter, which is still updated regularly. Last edited by Vorph : 04-08-2006 at 05:04 PM. | |
