+37 Internets | Truck Sound System Advise. I picked up a 2003 Toyota Tacoma single cab yesterday. It has room for 6.5's in the doors and tweeters near the door handles (there are already stock tweeters there). The seat goes right up to the back of the cab, so subs are definately out (unless you know of something creative; there is literally about a 6-12 inch gap between the bottom of the seat and the back wall of the cab). Anyone have any opinions on what would be a decent system for such a small area? If you can, include speakers, deck unit, crossovers, amps, etc. Was thinking of going with Boston Acoustics, but, oddly enough, there isn't a dealer that sells them within 100 miles of here (wru?).

dont say that. everyone told my friend that it would be impossible to fit 2 15s + amps under his backseat of his 03 quad cab dodge and still retain full usage of the seat. Needless to say he proved them wrong. You just need to find some nice low air volume subs and the amps to push them and then get creative =) ![]()

| Speakers aren't the problem....the box is. I bought a MTX Thunderform box for my regular cab S-10 - fits right behind the drivers seat, looks professional, and you don't lose any seat clicks if you want to adjust. Get one of the empty boxes and put your own sub(s) in it IMO. They have them pre loaded and with an internal amp, but they're crap. My only further advice is to amp the component speakers. Running a sub at full power and doors/dash/etc. on the head unit is shit. Pure shit. Either get 2 amps or 1 amp with enough channels to run all of your equipment. My system will never win any bass competitions, but I don't listen to rap music or anything like that so it sounds about as good as you can get in something as acoustically limited as a vehicle. |

+37 Internets | I forgot to add in a price range. I'd like to spend no more than $1000 for everything: deck, speakers, crossovers, subs (if able), amps, etc. Here is the pic of the style of Tacoma I purchased. It's even the same color, but doesn't have the gay chrome or that homoerotic stripe going down the length of the vehicle:

+1 Internets | You can go several ways with it, I have a 03 Silverado Standard Cab with 6.5 componants, a pair of 10 inch subs, and two amps all stuffed in there. If I were to redo the system though I would have used a single 10 so I had more room for the amps and crossovers, it is a bit snug as is. You need at least a two channel amp for componants, or a four channel if you plan to run any form of rear fill, there is probably something like 4x6s in the rear pillars. You also need a mono amp for running subs, depending if you want one or two. The other option is a 5 channel, but there is less selection when it comes to them. If you can afford it, don't run anything off the deck, deck power sucks. Do you have a brand preferance that is sold locally, are you after quality sound or do you want it to just get loud, and what brands are available in your area? Also will you be installing yourself or having a shop do it, makes a rather large difference in budget. Leave at least $100 for wire/wiring harness/dash kit/fuse holder/distro block, I'd order all of those online but suggest a brick and mortar for any amps and speakers as warrenties are a lot easier to use through them and you have much less chance of being burned. |

| It's been a long time since I followed the car audio scene, but you can pretty much squeeze some subs in where ever you want, if you're willing to go through a little trouble. The way to make the most of whatever space you have is to use the floor/wall of the car as part of the enclosure. It might not be the best thing for a number of reasons, but it can make a huge difference in your sub options. It can take a bit of work though, since your budget isn't going to allow for you to pay someone else to build it for you. At the very simpliest, you can just use some mdf to make the mounting surface of the box and whatever sides you need, then liquid nail it to the sheetmetal. Using a bit of fibreglass to stiffen up the metal and the joints would be a good idea too. You might also want to check into some subs that have very shallow mounting depths. I can't really speak to the quality of any current brands, but some models even have the magnets mounted on the front to decrease their depth requirements. ![]() |

| www.onlinecarstereo.com I bought all of this: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ad/Stereo1.jpg ![]() http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ad/Stereo2.jpg ![]() for less than $1k. Now my truck is an Extended cab, but I am sure you could find items that would fit yours a for under $1k. Last edited by Brad2770 : 03-19-2006 at 08:17 PM. |
