The point, and I'm surprised I'm saying this because I hate repeating myself, is that the military loves its members to be religious. They don't care what kind, normally, just as long as you are. They push Christianity because it's the easiest religion to digest, it's the largest religion in America, and it has a long tradition within the military itself. I could give a fuck less about any of that other shit you mentioned, because it means dick. I was in the military, I know just how much they shove it down your throat (they don't), and I know just how much it matters to the higher ups to go and see your local chaplain.

Yes, fuck the ACLU for trying to tell the military how to run its shit over the most inconsequential horseshit in the world. Are these so called hardk0re Christianites running around and raping people who do not conform to their specific belief? No. Are they hazing? Causing any kind of a general disturbance? Doing ANYTHING that should warrant some kind of looking into? NO. And that is the bottom motherfucking line of the issue.

I don't know how those floozies in the Air Force Academy do things, but I can't imagine the reason for it would be that far off for why I went to church in Basic. Now, I'm not that much of a religious guy, despite what you may think, shit I haven't gone to church since I was 8. But I went to church every Sunday in Basic training, and I loved every minute of it. Why? Because military training (<-- key word, active duty is nothing like this), in whole, stops on Sunday morning. It's your one excuse to sit back and relax, enjoy the first part of the day with your friends, brothers, and probably end up doing stupid easy shit for the rest of the day. Other days of the week, you have appointments to make, you have training to do. But Sunday, you have a choice. Go to Church and fuck around, or stay back at the dorm/barracks/whatever and clean shit. Tough fucking choice, let me tell you.

Church did rock at bootcamp, no doubt. I was there every sunday cept when we were in the field. James nailed it, church > cleaning weapons, clipping strings off uniforms, ironing shit, polishing shit etc etc. An hour or 2 away from the squad bay was a beautiful thing. That's why I brought up the other religions: you're fine with it being evangelical christianity. What if they decide 'hmm, we need some more fanatics" and go with Wahhabist Islam instead? You'd be cool with that as well? I mean shit, instead of one morning a week getting some time to kick back, you get it five times a day!

Discrimination against other religions is so easy to do in a wide variety of completely unintended ways. The military will NEVER order you to take a knee and pray for Jesus. Ever. They will NEVER order you to pray at all. They will say things like, "let's take a few moments of silence," or some such like that, and I just explained to you why going to Protestant/Baptist Church is encouraged, did you not even read that? For people who have never been in the military, I guess it's just easy to assume there's a large group of wacko Christians running around and shoving the shit down your throat, but for ANYONE who has been in the military we know it's just a bunch of douches looking to capitalize on a situation that has been harmlessly going on for the military's entire life. Keyword there, HARMLESSLY. The only reason this is in the news is because it is the Air Force Academy.

shouldn't be allowed, BUT(!) it all depends on how that was delivered. My guess is it was more of a "You may want to pray before this final (insert evil laugh as appropriate)" rather than an actual order to pray. There's a big difference, and the article doesn't give a verbatim quote so I don't think anyone can really argue either way with it.

I agree with Bralkan that pushing religion is one thing, pushing Christianity another, but, if it's as James said (the military doesn't discriminate based on religion), then that's not the problem at hand.

If it's anything like the Bundeswehr, then the USAF has a large network of support for Christianity. Why? It would be the majority religion and has been entrenched in the military since its inception. In addition to this, I assume minority religions have their chapels and services and would be welcome to attend those instead.
