Video Ipod

Curious if anyone has had good/bad experience with these so far? I bought one over the weekend and it's still coming in the mail, just curious about what people think of it. I'm buying it to replace my old creative zen that died on my recently, I'm hoping the video capabilities make this a better purchase for the price (the new zens are ridiclously expensive).

So what are people's thoughts? =p

Speck makes the best case for them, but they are like 30 bucks...

Benito knows what he's talking about. If you don't get a case at the very least use the felt/cloth case that comes with the ipod and keep it in there as much as possible.

btw, they are freaking awsome. I have the 30 gig version and love it.

To rip movies from DVD get Dvd Shrink and Videora

and follow the directions on the Videora website

Just curious, what size does a normal DVD compress down to in the iPod format?

Star Wars - A new hope is about 800 megs, return of the Jedi is a little bigger (didnt bother to look but the movie is longer so im pretty sure its better than ep. 4)

Thanks man, this is exactly the kind of tool I was hoping this thread would produce =p

A tool for the common man and the especially lazy one.

As long as it's in the proper format, yes.

yeah, you cant watch anything. the compression rate is that of a normal TV so its not that bad. Its kinda havoc on a battery but eh what do you expect?

Once I get some more cash Ive gotta buy me a Speck case...

this one here http://www.speckproducts.com/toughskin.html

My buddy has a new black 30 gig, and it was VERY impressive, the videos were very watchable, the screen is very nice, I was sold.

That being said, the surface might as well be made of clear wax. The clear plastic scratches SO easily. When I get one, I am going to put a screen protector sheet over the whole surface. I have a 3g Ipod with one of those protector sheets on it, and I can't even tell its there, there's no distortion or blurring at all.

Never. All my ipods were kept in protective cases and handled extremely gently. Never taken outside when it's really cold out, and never taken outside when it's really hot out. I followed every fucking ipod rule there was.

The people at the ipod store told me my ipods kept dieing because I wasn't using a mac to transfer the songs to it. That is about when I lost hope with apple.
