What are your intentions in using this pc?

Seems overpriced to me. Do you really need/want the tv tuner?

Overpriced. If you are serious about the tv tuner get a bigger hard drive. Why are you getting a modem? A floppy can still be useful if you might be flashing any hard ware or creating linux boot hax disks, etc. Also Dell sucks and you have to delete all the adware they put on it and update the drivers yourself right out of the box before you can get anything to run.

I'd say build yourself with parts from Newegg and if you want, you can get a monitor from dell because their LCD's are prety sweet. Go for a 20 inch widscreen though. $$$

If youre going to spend all of that extra money on stupid shit, you might as well upgrade your monitor to a 2005fpw. you will be more happy with that than your tv tuner.

I took a look at the current Dell offerings through http://www.techbargains.com and essentially configured the exact same system for the exact same price. The modem is included by default. You can't select "No, Fuck Off And Die" as an option. How fucked up is that?

Priced a similarly configured Optiplex through my business's premier page (25% discount) and it pretty much came to ballpark range same price. Dell just ended their end of fiscal year in Janurary. So either wait almost 4ish months for price breaks, or just wait 4ish months anyway for better technological offerings from Dell (since they soley sell you the Intel platform PCs).

Now isn't the best time to buy a new pc. Intel/AMD are both coming out with new shit in a matter of months. Not new as in: upgraded shit. But new as in the next step of PC evolution.

I want to spend 2k max, and am not willing to build my own computer. This computer exceeds my price slightly I realize. The TV tuner is to sell my girlfriend on getting the computer, can always just purchase a 2nd hard drive in the future, no? I would use the computer for doing lots of media like advertisements and layouts for publications, webpages, schoolwork, and of couse, gaming.

ok hers where ur going wrong, DELL

this is how your setup should list...

opteron 165/170 for 300 on newegg and OC the crap out of it they can reach up to 50% ocing on good coolers
Operating system i guess go for media center if u need a tuner and stuff... personally i think xp pro is better
TV Tuner and Video card, go for a x1900 AIW, its on par of performance of the 7800gtx 256 edition and u get 2 in one
Memory, Corsair XMS 2g 2x1gb sticks for 191-196 AR at New Egg
Hard Drives get a few raptors and RAID them
Optical drives just get what ever u think you will need
Modem???? wtf?
Monitors DEll 2405p or 2407
case, Antec P150 or P180
MOB, go for an a8n from ASUS, they are decent
or a k8n from MSI

HSF's go get a 9500 from ZAlman for your CPU and a fatality for your video card

even though u may be recluctant to build a computer, this would cost less

Find a local computer shop willing to put the pieces together for you. Buy from newegg.com. Everything except the monitor anwyay, a Dell monitor can be pretty nice.

One main reason I don't like making my own computer is because if I fuck up, I got no one to blame, but myself. In the event the system crashes, I can just call them up as well instead of having to troubleshoot it myself.

That computer with a modem? What the fuck.

Building your own is the only way to go these days for a high-end PC. Slapping together a system and putting Windows on it is not rocket science, save water cooling or some shit. I'm sure you've got a friend or two who can handle themselves around a computer well enough to build one. Do it and you'll be happy you did.

Parts together, it doesn't seem like you save too much through newegg from what I see.

How hard would it be to add another 250gb HD down the line? Another thing is I would like Media Center OS, and only select retailers can offer it. Can't buy it retail. Basically so I can stream video through my 360 onto the big screen. One of the pluses I am able to sell my girlfriend on.. Basically use the comp as a TIVO on the side. Burn extra video on DVDs.. etc..
