| Monitor help w/ xbox 360.. Well I got a Xbox 360, but I am kind of stuck with a 32" Sony WEGA TV that only does 480p. I hear you can get a CRT monitor a lot cheaper than buying a HD TV, and still achieve the same effect with the use of a VGA cable. Like this one here: http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...951&pfp=BROWSE So with that in mind, I would like to spend around 200-250 and get me a decent 19" CRT monitor so I can take adavantage of this.. Leading into my question.. what kind of monitors do I need to watch out for, and is there any specific spec's I should not pass up? edit- sorry for the vague topic, but all thoughts and ideas are welcome.. also thought I might note, I do not currently own a monitor and am using my laptop that unfortunately does not have VGA input. | You cant do "HD" with standard computer monitors, HDTV is either 1280x720 or 1920x1080, which no computer monitor is made in. If you want to run games in HD resolution, you will need to buy a HD tv. The best you could do with a monitor is 480p, which you already do.

| Ahh, I have no direct expertise on this exact topic, but my 19 inch CRT can certainly do both 720p and 1080p resolutions. Whether or not there is some other factor that prevents you from doing HD I don't know. Personally, I've also heard you can do HD on a monitor. |

As for an Xbox 360 on a computer monitor, just get whatever you want and plug it in via the vga plug: linky If you want that HD feel, get a widescreen monitor like the Dell 2005FPW and run in one of the 4:3 video modes (1280x720 or 1360x768). Last edited by Khalikryst : 12-05-2005 at 03:31 PM. | |

| After some searching around Dell. I didn't really see the 2405 in the price range you specified.. care to post a link? This is what I came up with on their site: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/P...ctlisting.aspx |

| I can dance if I want to | You can achieve HD on regular computer monitors, I don't know what other people are smoking. HDTV resolutions and timing are nothing but monitor settings, the only issue crops up is that 720p and 1080i/etc are not generally standard native resolutions on computer monitors. (though they arn't on HDTVs either, theres ALWAYS some amount of scaling going on, and it doesn't down-convert to 480i). Theres fundamental differances between HDTVs and monitors, settings, calibration techniques, etc. But all of that means jack to *you* if you don't know what it means. Far as the 360 goes, you get a 360, get the VGA cable(unless your monitor also accepts component), plug it in, and adjust settings in menu, thats it, and you *will* get HD on a computer monitor. The 360 can output RBG analog signals at proper computer timings. Don't let people try to make it sound more complicated then it really is, just get the right cable, get a monitor or whatever you like, and enjoy. |
