+66 Internets | Generic PC help thread 713. I'm too retarded this morning to figure this out. Boot up the PC. It gets to the loading windows (xp pro) screen, but when it would switch to the normal user login screen I get blackscreen, monitor power led blinks a few times, then the PC reboots. I can start windows in safe mode though. Went to a LAN party, was working fine all weekend. Just came home and now getting this. Video Card is a BFG 6800. Upgraded from a 2.0 ghz p4 to a 2.8 at the party (friend gave me, straight out of the box.) Windows is up to date, no virus's, did chkdsk /R and came up with no bad sectors, unplugged extra devices to see if it was a power thing, wasn't it. Suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure it's something stupidly simple but I'm still working all the alcohol out of my system. |

| Have you tried a system restore? Start > Programs > Accesories > System Tools > System Restore From there restore to a previous date when it was working and post if that worked or not. |

| There is no internets | If you are spending anymore than a day on this problem then you are wasting your time. What I mean is, if you can boot into safe mode, backup your important files on a flash drive, format C:, and reinstall windows. If that doesnt work then you can go hardware component by hardware component, in order of cheapest to most expensive and troubleshoot from there. The problem could be a multitude of issues ranging from malware, trojan, bad registry entries, bad drivers, and/or hardware issues just to name a few. Remember though if it is a software issue, it generally only takes about 3-4 hours to reinstall windows and the drivers associated with the computers. Just imho.

+66 Internets | Tried that (switching RAM), no change. However, since the uninstall/reinstall process, now instead of simply rebooting after a few seconds, the monitor stays on, but right in the middle of the screen in about an inch by inch square I get this wierd assortment of different colored dashes. |

| There is no internets | Kinda sounds like your video card took a dump. Have you tried another video card?

| There is no internets | Funny enough I read an article about how hyper threading is actually slowing big application servers down. http://news.com.com/Does+hyperthread...3-5965435.html
