+77 Internets | Need Input on Image I just made this in Illustrator because I needed to make something to show off my sweet chrome making skills. Please tell me what sucks about it and what I could do to make it look more "real". It was made with Adobe Illustrator CS2 and is based off a googled image. +8 Internets | Is it a crack pipe ? Maybe add some smoke or something. It is nicely done anyways. Now it got me wondering, why do people allways refer to crak pipes as beeing made out of glass ? What is the purpose of it ? |

also maybe because glass is non-porous and therefore when the crackrock melts the glass won't absorb any of the life-giving crack fluids whereas metal might not actually having ever tried it these are just my theories

+4 Internets | The silver chrome is well done, no real gripes there. The brass stuff is questionable, but still acceptable; i'd have to see the source image to really say. The black needs work. I'm sure the highlight is pure white, but the gradient from black to the white being the exact same size and same grey as it is on the silver chrome looks incorrect. Post the source image though, I may stand corrected if the light actually interacts with the black like that. And the actual saber needs to be redone if you're going to keep it as clarification of what the piece is, it's distracting as it is now. All in all good job though, brings back many illustrator memories. edit: I think I found the source image you were using, and the lighting on their black looks odd as well (albeit different that yours). Also, is this a gradient only assignment/project/personal experiment? There are details that would be easily achieved with a few paths that would bring everything together much better I think (especially in the center area, including the brass piece there, the gradients make it seem like a series of bevels while the source has defined cuts in the metal). And as one last minor gripe, the buttons that appear to be light bronze on your image look darker, probably copper on the source.

Any suggestions on how to make it look more real would be appreciated (it does not have to look like the source picture, just "realistic".)

| My only problem is the simplicity of the object. Also the 2 buttons at the top end of the handle dont look very real. The one facing down needs to be darker as if it was covered in shadow. Can you use photoshop at all? Maybe have a vague image reflecting on the chrome? I think that would add a lot of depth if not try to give some harder edges. that would give it a little more pop too Check out this site: http://www.lifeinvector.com/index2.html thats some good shit see how her coffee cup has more contrast where gradients meet?

+77 Internets | No raster images (photoshop), it has to be totally vector. I would have picked a harder object for the project, but I wanted to make a simple object look very real, rather than do a half assed job on a really complicated image. Thanks for the input on the buttons. Not sure which edges you think need to be harder though. The chrome reflections themselves? |
