New car (or truck) suggestions.

So my parents came in my room the other day and said they weren't comfortable with me driving my current car because it's a piece of shit, and they said they'd spot me some cash to buy a new car and I could pay them back.

Pretty cool deal and all, but I can't think of a car that would be suitable for my needs. I'm looking for something that gets decent gas mileage, but I could still have a little bit of fun in. I'm trying to keep it below $5,000 so I will actually be able to pay them off before I go off to college.

Any suggestions?

Fine fine, I read your post.

Older model Civics from 98ish will be around 5k with decent miles, and they rule for mileage.

Buy a 3-5 year old japanese sedan and be done with it.

I'd suggest that if you're trying to buy anything too cheap+sporty then some previous owner has likely done a number on the engine (or at least worn it overmuch).

Toyota or Mazda maybe? Hondas and Mitsubishis are good but tend to belong to more enthusiatic owners. A Toyota Corolla gets you from A to B and has cheap parts due to being sold in the millions. Not sporty though.

And She's only a little over a grand!

Wooh.

Seriously though, I drive a 1995 Dodge Dakota, and until she got some electrical problems in the dash, she was a tank.

a solid Japanese car can never turn you wrong. Esp if it has low mileage.

Ford Focus...high safety rating (so your parents will love it) and good gas mileage (because we all know gas is too expensive right now). I'm not going to look up the prices, but a 2003 might be in your price range.

Toyota corolla is a solid vehicle. just keep up with your oil changes and you will get many years out of one, as long as it's in good condition when you buy it.

i'm saying 98' accord or civic, camry> '03 focus if you can find one for similiar price, maybe like a 98' camry LE 4 cylinder is pretty nice in my book in good condition.
