| Blu-Ray (Security) I haven't done much research on these next generation DVD formats, all I've been keeping an eye on is who is making what But recently I ran into this Quote:
Is this true? You pay $300-$500 for this new device, you own the damn thing, but somehow Sony / other Blu-Ray drive makers can disable it remotely if you tinker with it, not that I would tinker with mine But am sure somewhere, somehow, a person will get their drive disabled by Sony by "accident" Then what? buy a new one?, spent hours talking with customer service trying to prove your device has not been tinkered with? I guess you can always stop the device from accessing the web Why would the device access the web anyway besides to update firmware or Blu-Ray software, which rarely gets updated anyway Maybe am reading too much into it

+16 Internets | To be honest, the main reason people hack DVD players is so they can watch different regions or play burnt discs. I'd be happy if, at the very least, they nuked region coding.

| While its gay, its nothing new. A guy was going to publish a book on how to hack your own xbox. It got shut down by the DMCA. Welcome to the new world were your most expensive items are no longer your private property. This has been going on in the software world for awhile now and is now creeping into physical objects because we allowed these assclowns to do it to us with software. Anyways, as a side note, the Blu-ray dvd players will cost Sony $100 per PS3 |

| This would easily be fixed if people started using their wallets and showing these companies whos boss. We could have so much higher quality products if people realized they had the power to make change.

| When I found out regional coding was just a means to control commerce and not some tech issue I moved it over into the Gay as Fuck column. I guess I'll have to put my faith in the hackers to get done what needs to be done with these things.
