| Where is the international aid? Just kind of curious honestly. I know this will turn into a political crap fest, but here it goes anyways: Has anyone seen any numbers from countries that have given any financial aid to the United States after Hurricane Katrina? I know Venezuela and the Saudis have offered to boost oil production, but since we do not have the refining capability it is almost moot. Other than that, I haven't seen anything. I AM NOT SAYING THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY DONATIONS! I googled a few searches but haven't seen anything. Respectfully, Alg |

+39 Internets | I posted in the other thread about Canadian aid agencies gearing up and preparing to deploy. The Canadian government has offered anything and everything to help in the relief effort. Provincial utility companies have offered crews and equipment to fix power lines. We haven't gotten a single response. |

+16 Internets | Germany Red Cross has also offered, but been told nothing as of yet. The way I see it, ego/red tape is the main thing standing in the way of the USA accepting aid.

| I hope its the fact that really no one has an idea wtf kind of state NO is in (atleast, those with the power to make decisions). I mean, they've seen the state but they don't really know what infrastructure is damaged. Not to mention, you really can't do shit with the city under water. It would still make sense though to get people stationed or something. I have heard interviews with senators on local raido that they, the senators, are willing to take aide from anywhere and anyone (foriegn was specifically something the reporter asked, so it would fall in that answer). |

| I really wish the uber American Media machine would report that. I did find one article, on Fox News, about France gearing up. I wonder if the US is following the same wait to see what we have be for we offer/ask for anything like the Tsunami. All we see on TV is US Military choppers air lifting people to safety, but even that stopped when some dork took some shots at a chopper. Thanks for all the responses w/o attacks. No need for em honestly. Eomer, any way we can get some Kokanee? /grin Alg |

+39 Internets | Why would you want Kokanee? Maybe Kokanee Gold, but Kokanee? I hate that shit. My favorite part about it is that most of my friends like it, and yet look down on Pilsner. Hey jackasses, Kokanee is a pilsner and tastes very similar! http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/natio...a20050831.html Our PM is apparently calling Bush today to offer condolences and help, so maybe then we'll get a request. But as far as I know, we're just sitting here waiting for the word "go." IMO they should deploy DART, a military unit that can be loaded on to a couple C5's within a few hours, has a large field hospital and can produce clean drinking water for tens of thousands of people. It's not like we're that far away (there was some hesitation on deploying it to Sumatra last year, but that was more because we barely have the ability to move it anywhere, since our largest military cargo planes are fucking 40 year old Hercules), can't see why it would be a difficult deployment. |

| I think Germany laughed at America and said Katrina was our fault.

| Hum, no. With the democrats and the republicans both feeding you with propaganda, you obviously lost all ability to see otherwise than in black and white. Beside, even if everyone else did think like that, how do you justify yourself to think like this? Don't you realise how short sighted it is? +2 Internets | The Netherlands has offered assistance in the form of an expert civil engineering team, since half the country is below sea level you'd think they know a thing or two about keeping water out. Then again there's no hurricanes in Europe and there is a practical limit as to what you can guard against when it comes to forces of nature as powerful as this) I'm sure more international aid will be given but I don't think the Bush administration wants people to get the impression that they can't handle this situation without foreign help, so it's likely that coverage will be limited (not attacking Bush per se - another administration would probably do the same thing). |

+39 Internets | At this point, the situation is so goddamn FUBAR that the US's resources aren't even being used. No one knows what the fuck is going on, it seems. Even if other countries send aid, where does it go, and through who? This whole thing has demonstrated how poorly prepared the US really is for a large scale disaster or attack, despite the past 4 years. |

The truly sad part is that we are, in all likelyhood, better prepared and have more ability to focus manpower and material on things like this to fix them than anywhere else in the world. Imagine if this sumbitch had hit shore as a cat 4 in Cuba or Panama or Mexico.
