| Switch/Router Anyone have suggestions for a good router with around 10-12 ports? Is Cisco the best or is there something else I should look at? Right now I have This PoS which some kid stole from a HS and then gave it to me for letting him lan with my friends. It's a 3com LinkBuilder FMS II, some of the ports don't even work and since I don't have a manual I can't log into and mess around. |

+18 Internets | What amount of money are you looking to spend? What are you using it for? If you're actually looking for a good firewall for a SB or something and dropping some decent cash I'd get a sonicwall 2040. |

| Cnet is a good stand-by for cheap, reliable, un-managed switches. For high end, I like HP myself. You could also go for your favorite SOHO brand - Linksys (a branch of Cisco), Netgear, Dlink, etc http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Su...SubCategory=30. Quite a few there for sub $100 |

+66 Internets | You won't find many routers with more then 4 ports in any sense of affordable price ranges, so yeah, pretty much anything Linksys Switch will do just fine. The neat thing is, newer ones stack nicely. Have a little switch-switch-router-cable modem tower. <3 |

| Cisco is the most dependable....but not the fastest. Without a good month AT LEAST with the cisco ios, you won't even be able to set one of these up, so don't bother. Juniper is the best overall. As for cheap stuff, anything that doesn't look generic and was made in 04 or later should work fine. Don't forget to get your firmware updates. Check online reviews before a buy. |

| Fuck netgear. I've seen at least a dozen bad netgear wireless cards, and I'd say 5 routers that have some sort of defect e.g. port doesn't work, won't recognize LAN, etc. It's just a shitty company. I thought D-Link was bottom of the heap but never seen any of their routers go bad. Cards, on the other hand..just don't buy those. From anyone. |

+8 Internets | If it is for professional/intensive use, I'd say Cisco. We tried using different brands for minor network equipments in my company, as 3com, NetGear or D-Link. Maybe it was bad luck, but we had problems with them, like some ports just dying (happened several times on DLink and NetGear switches). For like 4 years now, we are only using Cisco and Juniper hardware, and never had anything too weird/serious happen. |
