Hurricanes are teh suck.

Yay, the middle of Hurricane season... The absolute worst part of it! And there's a hurricane entering the gulf... And guess where my house is on the cone?

RIGHT IN THE FUCKING MIDDLE!

Shit, I hope we don't get hit by the damn thing. In my area of Louisiana, there would probably be like 8 feet of water in my house... IF I have a house when it's over...

All we get here in Michigan are tornadoes. Had one round here about a few monthes ago...It uprooted a 30 foot tree that had a trunk of about 12 feet round. Landed about 2 feet away from my neighbor who was ahead when it happened, and it caused him to have a heart attack.

Tornadoes around here usually have a few telltale signs they are coming. It gets really still, no wind, and its usually humid like its about to rain. Then the sky turns really pale green, and then you see the really dark clouds....

Then the wind comes...The winds that are so strong they'll knock you on your ass and tip over cars. I went around the neighborhood after the tornado, trees were knocked over and branches everywhere. No cars tipped over though.

Losing everything will be the worst for me. Just losing all of my memories, all the things that remind of when I was younger, or all the things that remind me of my birthdays, or Christmases. That will probably all be gone.

I guess I'm just afraid I'll forget, or something.

Good luck to you man. Get off the intarweb, gather up your valuables, precious items, etc and get to high ground (shelter, et al). Don't waste valuable time on message boards.

Paradise? My city is the worst hellhole I have had the displeasure of living in. I go to the beach mabye bi-monthly. North-west coast is paradise not the shithole that is the Gulf of Mexico.

I must admit though Pensacola's beaches are the best I have veer seen... Assuming I look straight down at the sand.

But yeah. Get your shit and get safe and dont forget about the needs of your pets. Whatever happens shit will get fucked up for a while then only be a little fucked up for a long while then everythings cool. With any kind of luck your home will be fine and your only problem will be utilities/flooding. Myself I just dont give a shit so dosent bother me. Only reason I get annoyed is because of the motherfuckers getting gas blocking traffic. During Ivan we were bracing windows against the wind when a tornado hit the building I work in. took out a nice chunk of the corner and finished off some windows but whatever I just layed down and took a nap a while later. Even in a worst case scenario you just gotta roll with the punches get shit done and move on.

Ho boy

New Orleans is fucked. This is the big one that has been anticipated for quite some time now.

New Orleans local TV live on the internet.

Quote:
Officials worry the recent focus on terrorism exposes New Orleans to a more likely danger.

"With the creation of Homeland Security, we have taken a backseat," said Walter Maestri, emergency management director in Jefferson Parish. "To us, it is pretty obvious which is the greater threat. One is maybe, the other is when." -link
The when is now. People talk about terrorism. 9/11 killed about 2,752 people and caused a minor blip in the economy. Worst case scenarios for a Category 5 hurricane hitting New Orleans involves perhaps 300,000 people unable or unwilling to evacuate. The Red Cross estimates that as many as 25,000-100,000 people could drown. Survivors would have to deal with a city where 90% of buildings have been destroyed and everything is under up to double digits of feet of toxic water that will not naturally drain. All services, electricity, sewage, water, police, medical, would be out of commission. Rescue efforts will be "a logistical nightmare". Food, water, shelter, will be difficult or impossible to find for many days. Pumping the city would take weeks and months, rebuilding would take longer. Economic impact could be significant - the area is responsible for one quarter of our oil and natural gas production, and the largest port complex in the nation moves 16% of all seagoing cargo.

Now the good news is that that's the worst case scenario. The bad news is that Katrina looks like it's going to be way too close to that.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

If you don't like hurricanes move the fuck out of florida.

Here where I live in Michigan we don't have any natural disasters.

Move away from Florida to Louisiana, right matt?

This is all over the place, but I can't get a source that's official enough for my taste. Ostensibly (probably?) from the National Weather Service. Note the bold.
