| Xbox chip mod? Alright - I know about www.xbox-scene.com but that is a shit load of information to shift through. I have an older xbox (so It should be version 1.0-1.5) - anyone recommend a mod chip and a basic run down of what will be needed to run software off a cd-r / dvd-r ? Yea, it can be used to play pirated games and I'll probably try that. The main thing is I need to duplicate mine and my brother's xbox game collection - going to two seperate schools now. |

+11 Internets | Basic rundown: You should go through docs to verify which version you do have because it makes a big difference in what sort of equipment you need to buy. Once you know, you can go to a lot of reputable stores (modchipman, etc) and get a good chip. It's been awhile since I bought mine and stuff changes fast, but I always had luck with Xecuter chips. Basically, you install the chip, and then the easiest way to do things is to download a piece of software you burn to a CD- or DVD-R called Slayer's Auto-Installer, which is a nice piece of work. It comes bootable, so you just enable chip, put that disc in, and boot up. It prompts you a few times but it installs the relatively standard EvolutionX dashboard plus some other things and gets you started easy and quick. At that point you have a few options - you can FTP to the box to upload mods, games, music, etc. As far as duplicating the games goes, it's a simple process to rip the game files from the disc to the hard drive, so one of you would get the games themselves and the other would get copies on his hard drive of each of those games. Alternatively, you can pick who gets which actual disc based on who likes the game more, but there's really no disadvantage to the hard drive method - it actually sports faster load times, etc, you just have to have the disk space. |

| [Asked a friend who downloads practically everything that comes out for the xbox what he uses, and this is what he said...] Modchip - Xecuter 3CE (Installation for 1.0-1.6) Software - At a minimum you'll want Avalaunch and Qwix, along with a proper bios for the modchip since shops sell generally sell them with linux bios to keep them "legal". You'll also need to know how to solder (and have decent tools to do it) if you're going to do all of this yourself, but that's all covered in the pdf above. |

| I believe I read somewhere that Microsoft has found a way to detect modded Xbox So if you have Xbox Live, you may not be able to use it anymore after modding it
