| Its a crime to own modded cars in Cali http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/05/576.asp Evidentally theres a new crackdown going on in California that will make it a crime to have modified cars. Cops have been pulling over cars that appear to be even a little riced up. "Under Drag-Net, San Diego officers come to train other departments how to look out for what they believe to be tell-tale signs of illegal modification such as window tinting, large spoilers, extra gauges or racing stickers." If this is blatant profiling I dont know what would be. Seems they are targetting Asians mostly though. Hopefully this wont spread as many cars coming out from car company's are allready looking a bit modded since its a market thats too large to ignore. |

| Shouldn't be a big deal, just go to court and fight it, you're likely to win thanks to California's wonderful legal system (see O.J., Michael Jackson, etc)

| I think its basically saying that any car that looks modded in anyway its perfectly fine to pull it over and inspect it. Make sure its legal, theres nothing illegal in it, and such. Its profiling at its worst, basing it on the car instead of the person driving. If its modded, its been racing kinda mythos. Gives em a erason to pull over anyone in a modded car they find suspicious. Of course they find a Cold Air intake under the hood and if the cop is a dumbass hell run you in for something with this new law. Its really bogus, and I would think goes along breaking constituional rights a bit. |

| Good, this will weed out the retards in the import modding community who are too stupid to realize that the best cars are the ones that still look stock but are far from it. If you have too much window tinting, dark covers on your lights/signals, lowering by cutting the springs, etc. your car is unsafe and shouldn't be on the road in the first place. The same goes for people who remove their cat between emissions tests. Want to drag race? Cool, as long as you're ok with the city getting your pink slip when you get caught. The only part of that I find ridiculous is the exhaust noise one. I've heard everything from piece of shit riced up Hondas that are lucky to pull low 14's to a truly impressive Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 that did the 1/4 in 8.xx seconds, and none of them even approached the noise that a run of the mill Harley makes going by my house. Stereos on the other hand... |

Curiously enough charges, be it speeding or whatever, are always dropped against people trying to bring such a suit. Guess that's one precedent they don't want set. Also it used to be if you had a car, you could drive. Only when it became regulated did the Government turn it into a "privelege" to be given out at their whim.

| I work in the automotive industry, have been since I was 19, about 13 years now. And we have strict regulations, FMVSS (federal motor vehicles safey standards) requirements that we have to meet on all counts. Literally spending millions of dollars in development to make cars safe and roadworthy. And then some fucknut goes and fucks with things like suspension, gear ratios, exhaust systems, wheel size, on board computers..... Im glad they are going after these freaks. Afterall a car in the wrong hands is like a loaded gun, which can take out a whole family at a single blow.
