Buying a new guitar~!

wasen't sure if i should put this in general or music, but anyway.

i'm looking into buying a new guitar, i've seen what B.C. Rich has to offer and i like some of their shit, but i think their price's are in U.S.D. so i dont know if im willing to spend 600-1000 US for a guitar.

i've got about 1200 canadian to spend, although i doubt im going to spend it all on a guitar.

i want something that looks, feels, and sounds metal, something mean and heavy, i saw Mick Thompson has his own Signature series warlock guitar at b.c. rich but then again i said it before, would i really be willing to spend 700ish U.S.D on a damned guitar...who knows. i also saw the guy from static-x (wayne) has his own guitar, and so does kerry king(slayer).

what i'd like to ask is:

what actually gives a guitar that sound that thease musicians go for, i've heard ''humbucker pickups'' are what most of thease guitars have and thats one of the main keys to makeing it sound so great.

anyone know any websites i could go to for other guitars?. Possibly lower priced guitars*400-700* canadian?

Do you know anything about guitars at all? Do you have any experience playing one? Pickups on a guitar are what give it the sound it makes. Humbucker pickups will give you a more rockish tone and an example of that would be an AC/DC-like sound. While the pickups on the guitar do make a difference, you can also get pedals that give the sound you want, like a heavy metal pedal. Gibson and Fender guitars are great. Price is a bit steep, but they have awesome playability and sound. I'm not from Canada so I don't know what's around there, but a good site to look at is www.musiciansfriend.com

this is the pedal i use, its pretty awsome you can change almost everything pitch/distortion/tone/bass etc.

Enchiladitos, my friend has a strat, i dont like them.

solariss, i know stuff about guitars, but thats why i came here asking about humbuckers, i didint know they gave a rockish type tune.

thanks.

Get yourself a used Gibson Les Paul. You can get one for probably what your willing to spend, and IMO its one of the best crunchy, metal sounds. Plus its a collectors item and it always will be, so if you need to off it, you wont lose much. check around in some used guitar stores, im sure they are around in BC.

point is any instrument can be bad ass with enough talent and dedication

for example the Ukulele:

whats gay is kids learning a few chords at guitartabs.com and thinking they look cool.

Since this thread seems to be a good spot to ask, I have never played an instrument before and am thinking of buying a guitar. What's a good place to start, preferably somewhat metal sounding, money is a factor .

Jesus that guy on the ukelele owns, what a great song.

alright

lets see element...wow no actually i wasen't joking, strats are piece's of shit...

wait, nevermind no they aren't, i just PERSONALLY dont fucking LIKE THEM MOTHER FUCKER.

hooby, best advice i can give ya, buy something cheap...maybe an epiphone or something they're usually not very expensive. be prepared to practice asstons before you get even half decent, takes a lot of hard work to get good.

that jake guy was amazing.

As for the strat talk. I'm a big time strat fanboi, but I do know a few people that just can't stand them. Personally I'll never understand why. I guess it's all about personal taste.

If you are going for the raunchy metal sound, anything with double coil humbuckers is your best bet. In all honesty though, with a sick set of singles (SRV SE) you can get plenty of juice out of a strat. They are by no means slack on metal when equipped for it, but off the bat they do fall a tad behind anything double coil.

As for the ME pedal...I can't stand them. I have never used one that followed through like single effects pedals, but to each his own. Personally, give me a fuzzface and I'm in heaven.

well

honestly i think the main reason i dont like strats is cause their strings are too close together, my friend has a strat and my epiphones are atleast 1/4 of an inch farther apart, i guess im just used to my guitar and how far apart they are, im sure if i actually bought a strat i'd get used to it...its just a manner of patience.

as for pedals, this is the first pedal i've owned, i got it for my birthday...friend has one of those metal ones...i think his is black...metal zone maybe ? not sure of the name, but it does sound nice.

my friend was also telling me he's getting an equalizer and a compressor? dunno wtf a compressor is but yeah, gonna see how those sound, maybe i'll get one of the two or both..

as for my new guitar, i'm gonna go to town this weekend hopefully and check out some gibsons/strats/somethin else.
