as for pedals, this is the first pedal i've owned, i got it for my birthday...friend has one of those metal ones...i think his is black...metal zone maybe ? not sure of the name, but it does sound nice.

my friend was also telling me he's getting an equalizer and a compressor? dunno wtf a compressor is but yeah, gonna see how those sound, maybe i'll get one of the two or both..

as for my new guitar, i'm gonna go to town this weekend hopefully and check out some gibsons/strats/somethin else.
Well, I don't think any guitar has strings that are half an inch apart, if they were I know I definitely wouldn't be able to play. An equalizer just messes with the frequency of the input sound (i.e., making the guitar sound low or high end heavy or bringing out the mid-range frequencies) and a compressor basically just reduces the dynamic range of a signal (makes it so theres no crazy volume changes). I have a friend who plays metal and he swears by Ibanez so you may wanna check them out. I have a Stratocaster with double Humbuckers and two Texas Special single coils and for blues or straight up rock and roll it plays like no other. As for Gibson, the Les Paul is my favorite guitar in the whole world but they definitely ain't cheap. I don't know about metal, but if you want rock then take your pick between Fender and Gibson because they pretty much define the sound (although you can probably find a decent Epiphone copy of anything for not too much). One thing I've learned is that when it comes to musical instruments, you get what you pay for. If you sink some decent money into a nice guitar then you'll have it for a long time and it will treat you well. This is just my opinion and its kinda broad but I hope this helps.

ok, first off, BC rich makes junk guitars. They fall apart really easily and use shitty knock off EMG pick ups.

Secondly, a humbucker is a type of pick up, not a brand...which is a common mistake people who are new to guitar make. humbuckers have a thicker tone and are less noisy than single coils, which is what a strat has.

Third, a Les Paul, while being an amazing guitar, does not have the best tone for what this guy is looking for, and in my opinion would be a bit much of a guitar for a beginer. Also, the cheapest your gonna get a gibson les paul is about 700 US for a studio unless you get really lucky on ebay or something.

For a "metal guitar that looks/sounds metal", i would highly recommend looking for vintage early 80s Charvel or Jackson, or even Ibanez. They're gonna have wood with a better age on it, which will give a much sweeter sound than anything you can get new. If you luck out and get one with original pick ups, you'll have some very nice handwound pick ups, which might need to be rewound and possibly dipped in wax (do not try that on your own).

For the money, if you want to get a very nice quality guitar, i would highly recomend a gibson SG. They range lower than a les paul, and due to being lighter weight, they have a much brighter sound, meaning you can get more "crunch" out of them. The SG special comes standard with the gibson 498 and 498T pick ups, which are also brighter than the standard pick ups on a les paul and cost around 600 new.

I always recomend going for vintage however, aged wood will always sound better. I use a '68 SG with an original p-90 in the bridge, has more of a growl than a crunch, and i run it through a marshall jcm800 100watt and a marshall jmp 50watt.

this is what an SG looks like:

and yea, i'm bragging, because that's a sweet guitar.

get a mid-range Ibanez.. staple metal guitars.. something like an RG470 or higher till you're good enough to know what a great guitar is

i'm looking into buying a new guitar, i've seen what B.C. Rich has to offer and i like some of their shit, but i think their price's are in U.S.D. so i dont know if im willing to spend 600-1000 US for a guitar.

i've got about 1200 canadian to spend, although i doubt im going to spend it all on a guitar.

i want something that looks, feels, and sounds metal, something mean and heavy, i saw Mick Thompson has his own Signature series warlock guitar at b.c. rich but then again i said it before, would i really be willing to spend 700ish U.S.D on a damned guitar...who knows. i also saw the guy from static-x (wayne) has his own guitar, and so does kerry king(slayer).

what i'd like to ask is:

what actually gives a guitar that sound that thease musicians go for, i've heard ''humbucker pickups'' are what most of thease guitars have and thats one of the main keys to makeing it sound so great.

anyone know any websites i could go to for other guitars?. Possibly lower priced guitars*400-700* canadian?
DUDE! You need this guitar! Imagine the powers it has!

if you're looking for good single effects pedals I'd go with Boss. I own a Boss DS1 pedal for distortion and my friend owns a couple of Boss pedals and they sound great and won't break. Here's the pedal you are probably thinking of: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/151328/ ..there are also sample mp3's on that site to get an idea of what it kind of sounds like.

and here's the guitar I am buying very soon: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/517217/ =P

The SG's are really nice guitars. If im not mistaken, Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath sported one of those.

Yep he sure did.....
