| Laptop Question I'm in the market for a laptop, not neccessarily to play anything super powerful. I have a preference for sony and its xbrite displays, but I get a heavy IBM (Lenovo) discount through my school. The discount is about $1000 off normal price. So it's kind of narrowed down to an S series Sony or a T43/X41 (those are the only two that get the larger discount). A comprable set up in the S and T get the same price with the discount. I don't really understand why IBM is $1000 more in general. So the real question is, how are IBM's laptops nowadays. I haven't heard much about them and not many people I know have them. Suggestions? Thanks in advance ~Renolin |

+2 Internets | I haven't had any experience with IBM's, but from what I've heard/read, they're REALLY good quality. http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=144 That is the IBM section of those forums, so you can probably get a better (maybe biased) answer. But I'm guessing it is mainly because of their big name, and quality. |

| I own a IBM thinkpad T42 and the machine is pretty amazing to say the least. And if you get such a huge discount on the t43 go for it, you can even get the thumbprint reader, which is a little over the top but so very cool. The only downside is that they're very plain looking, but are built like fucking tanks. |

| There is no internets | Typing this post on my T41p (fully loaded with 1GB of RAM and 128MB Fire GL2 card). Biggest thing about IBM is they are light as shit, great (I do mean great) battery life, and yes they are made for manhandling better than other laptops. I run apps (games/suites/etc) better than my tower at home (which is a 2.0ghz 1gb of ram, and a radeon 9800pro) , but I am not exactly sure why If you can afford to get a spare extended life battery do so it lasts roughly 3+ hours of playing games/watching dvds/work stuff. Makes traveling much less painful. Tech support is pretty damn good too, my corp office uses nothing but thinkpads (T series), any problems we have they ship pretty much take care of in a very timely fashion. Dis |
