| Video card installation question Let's get the obligatory out of the way. Yes I am a noob and I suck at computers. Now, I installed the drivers just fine. Or so I thought. I have a Code 12 problem, inadequate allocation of resources. I went to the device manager blah blah and hell if I know what to do. I'm lucky I can work my blender. Anyway it will not let me card enable. Any clues how to remedy this? Thanks in advance for looking.

+15 Internets | I have no idea what that is and I'm too lazy to google it. But, I imagine it'd be difficult to mess this up. Make sure the hardware is in properly obviously, load the drivers and go is all it takes most of the time. It's possible your card was DOA, but you might want to try disabling your old video card after setting up your new one (if its onboard, if it's in a slot just yank it out). AGP or PCI?

| AGP. I made sure to uninstall the old driver before putting in the new card. Right now there is a conflict with it's IRQ allocation. Driver is just not being recognized by the machine. I thought maybe it was a motherboard problem. I've put in half a dozen Vcards in my life with no problems. No fucking clue what the hell is wrong this time. Ya you're right it's pretty difficult to mess up installing one but shit, this is pissing me off. I've done all the tricks I know besides messing with the BIOS.

| Ya, fucking ATI. I don't pretend to be a computer whiz but I put a ATI 9600 AGP 128MB in just last week on basically the EXACT same system. The only difference was that puter has 20 more gigs on the HD. Everything down to the chipset, MB, sound, and the fucking mouse is the same. Yet I can't get the 9550 configured on this machine worth of damn. As a side note, I removed the 9600 from the other computer and installed it fine on this computer. So it's either that particular card is borked or the 9550 just won't function with my MB. Either way I'm returning this shit and going Nvidia. Meh.

+15 Internets | Yeah. I have a tech who works with me who has an ATI card that randomly does that shit in one computer. He can move it to another computer and it works just fine, so I don't know what that shit is. He's a pretty smart guy, so I think he's tried some different shit out too. But, with your systems being identical that seems super weird. Just return it for a 6800GT ![]()
