| Stud Finder I bought this piece of shit Stanley Intellisensor stud finder and wanted to tell all you idiots to not buy it because according to it i only have 3 studs in my house and they're all 3 feet wide. I realize that most of you live in basements that have concrete walls so pls fuck off with the flames. I did however enjoy writing them an angry letter: I recently bought my first stanley product: An IntelliSensor! After calibrating this gem of a precision instrument I quickly put it to work by scanning a 15' section of wall, only to find that my walls had no studs! Holy shit, i'd been robbed by my contractor. Upon calling he assured me they were there or else the house wouldn't be standing. I then began ponder another method of finding the oh so illusive studs. Finally, realizing that if you're brilliant engineers who probably got their Ph.D. in turf grass science instead of anything relative to the creation of worthy tools couldn't create a solution to this problem i sure as hell couldn't. In anger, i punched the walls only to find that there, unphased by the girlyman punch was the object of my desire. A Stud. And it's all thanks to your worthless piece of shit that would probably function better as a garage door opener. Eat me, Stanley. |

+39 Internets | heh, some of those gadgets are useless, some of them work fucking awesome. Not sure what brand I've used in the past, they are yellow and I am pretty sure the name started with a Z or something like that. Things worked just fine for the most part, so long as you didn't move it too fast across the wall. Some of them have a "deep scan" mode in case there's a double layer of drywall or whatever that prevents it from find a stud. Most of the time it's just easier to find and mark one stud, and then just measure out multiples of 16" to find the rest. Start near a door casing or end of the wall, then measure from there. If the builder was halfway decent, they should be pretty close to 16" O/C, that's pretty standard. Hence why tape measures often have little marks on 16, 32 etc. But hell, if it's drywall, just get some EZ-Anchors, or something of that nature. Not those shitty little blue fisher plugs. These ones I am talking about have a big "thread" on them and they screw right into the drywall, then you can screw into them. They hold extremely well in most cases, so long as whatever you are doing it for pulls down, and not out. Huzzah! http://www.smithfast.com/ezanc.htm Last edited by Eomer : 02-08-2005 at 08:20 PM. |

Its not so much you got fucked by the stud finder, but by the brand. As far as I know (and don't know if they still do), Stanley started outsourcing their product assembly to Korea and other countries, and now half (or more) of what they make is complete junk. Get your money back? If you don't have the receipt anymore, see if a Home Depot or Lowe's near you sells it, and try to get a refund there. Sometimes its a store credit deal, but at least its something.

| You should've aimed it at Blaezenfury first to calibrate it. But yeah, I've had limited success with stud finders. I generally do better just tapping the wall to find one and then measuring it out from there. |
