| video project, need help doing a small video project but i dont know what software i can use. basically im looking for any application that can open an existing avi file and allow the user to change the file frame by frame. for example a video capture of a video game from my tv, i'd be interested in substituting text where current text bubbles are, or adding in whole new graphics. can this be done, and if so what software would i use? |

| maybe if i was more specific you could give me a better answer (i was kinda value in my first post) the snes 9x emulator allows one to tale avi movie captures of video games. I want to take a lengthy movie capture of an rpg game and then substitute in text to replace the text that the characters say in the game. like for example, in final fantasy 3 when locke says 'i'll protect you' i'd like to edit the appearing text to instead say something different and to make a movie about something different using video game screen captures. by making sure everything i want the characters to say contains the same number of letters as the thing they originally say, i shouldnt have to alter the scroll speed of the message, merely replace the text, one letter at a time, in every frame of the movie. i'm willing to spend money on software to help me do this (since i need some good film editing software anyway, this is a good a time as any to buy some) but im hoping its nothing outrageous like $400 thanks in advance for any help you can provide. i'll post the movie when i make it, if i make it, if its even possible... |

| http://www.zophar.net/utilities/sneslevel.html I just downloaded this program from that page and tested it out. It looks like it could easily do what you need. |

| yea i knew there were probly utilities out there. that looks like good resource section. and when i say hack, and when most people say hack, they mean the most general term. you use a 3rd party program, open up the file, change text you can already read, save, run.
