Laptop: Take 2

Ok, so I posted a short while before the general forum was erased about getting a laptop. There was some decent information, but unfortunatly now that the time has come to order it , it's dissapeared.

Basically:
I need something with long battery life first and foremost, preferably under 7lbs. It needs to be able to run WoW decently, other then that, I don't care. 512 ram 1.4ghz+ is what I'm looking at.

It's going to be my jerk off at work computer (11pm-7am overnight job with about 2 hours of real work) and my computer for school. I have no brand loyalty, no real preference. Need to get it shipped sometime this week.

I know it is really mainstream and therefore probably not cool, but I got my laptop from Dell about a year ago at a really good price. Its a 2.2ghz, 256 RAM, about 5 or 6 pounds and I only paid about $700. The battery life is about 4 hours. I've heard of a lot of people with laptops that had their battery life get worse and worse, but mine has stayed right at the 4 hour mark for the year or so that I've had it. I got it exclusively for work related stuff so I didn't need anything real high end, but when my desktop got all fucked up I began running WoW on it and it works fine. I'm sure you could get something really decent from Dell for under $1000 now that would get the job done for WoW/work.

Playing WOW + high battery life = does not compute.

Sorry.

Price is always the determinate factor.

If battery life is a must then an intel centrino is like no other.

You can also get extra batteries as well.

Stay away from integrated graphics cards.

Trust me.

Battery life and WoW can exsist, get a higher end centrino or any of the athlon 64 laptops. Centrino gives you at least 6 hours of battery life and the athlon 64 gives you 4.5+. Both will run WoW.

well, WoW will be at work only, as thats the only place i'll have an internet connection other then home.

The battery life comes into play @ school, which means it needs to run word @ low brightness for about 4 hours without a problem.

I've actually been looking primarily at dells, but it seems every decent config is like 1300+

My Dell laptop (1.4 GHZ Centrino) runs WoW just fine at low settings. The battery life is 4 hours when idle at the desktop and about 1 hour of WoW.

Although Sony is overpriced, they look good and have X-brite monitors that really do make a difference. Their smallest model gives up too much for size, but their S series (second smallest, i believe) is quite nice.

IBM's were always good "work" laptops. By work, I mean light with long battery life. They did sell their consumer PC department, but I don't think the computers have been changed at all yet. I used to have a highly reliable desktop IBM, so I tend to think highly of their products. Any thinkpad owners out there?

If you get your laptop at best buy, get the PSP. Most people don't know how to repair laptops themselves and it covers 1 battery a year.

It's seriously one of the only PSPs I recommend and I'd buy it myself.

Dell + Centrino = win.

You might pay a little extra for the Dell (as opposed to buying a generic brand), but they have one of the best warranty plans I've ever seen, and are very quick to fix things (at least in my experience).

I ended up going with the inspiron 9200 from dell, saved like 400$ with a promotion they had this past week.

17" widescreen w/ dedicated graphics and 4 hour + battery life.

SLow hard drive and only 333mhz ram.. but its the price you pay I guess.

With upgrades (1.8ghz pm, upgraded screen, upgraded battery, some other minor crap)

I ended up paying 1600$ shipped. Not too shabby for what I got.
Doesnt leave them until 1/31 though ;\
