| Problem with installed CPU I recently ordered a Pentium 4 3.0E HT processor from newegg.com. I made sure my motheboard would support the chip so there would be no problems. I was using a pentium 4 2.66 chip overclocked to 3.1 ghz. After installing the chip I turned on the CPU. Nothing loaded not even the bios. Now from what I know normally the bios would beep if the chip is bad or any other components in my system hardware. I tried blowing on the pins to make sure there was connection, yet that did nothing. Im wondering if you guys have had any experience like this with installing cpu's. I have installed CPU's before and never ran into this problem. And again my motherboard does support pentium 4 and hyperthreading technology. Also I have a 480 watt powersupply so im sure its not that either.

+29 Internets | This tends to happen if you have the CPU set to run way too fast, at least that's my experience with AMD chips. Haven't had an Intel system in years and years, but I imagine it's the same thing. Unplug the system completely, pull the CMOS battery, and clear the CMOS. That should reset the settings to default (there may even be a jumper you have just have to short to clear the memory, depends on the mobo). |

| If you didnt get POST beeps, then yeah, Clear your CMOS as the above poster said. If you do get POST beeps, post them here and what model/manufacturer motherboard you have and your BIOS type I'm sure someone can help you or you could probably google it yourself and figure out where your problem is. And, this is probably a stupid question, but you did put thermal compound on between your fan and processor, and you are sure the fan was running? I know a melted processor will produce the problem you are having, but it sounds like you never got it to turn on to even melt it, but I figured I would throw it out there. |

| Hmm I have not tried clearing the CMOS. From what I know I just need to remove the battery to do so? I hear that does not work all the time.. P4 titan motherboard

| You remove the CMOS battery and unplug it for about 15 minutes (really needs less, but no reason to rush things). This usually clears everything and resets to default, even on boards with a CMOS reset jumper. If it doesnt reset everything and you have a jumper, follow your manuals instructions (either the one you have or one on a website) on how to go about doing that. If that doesnt clear it up and you still dont get any post beeps, try your old processor again, and start to eliminate variables as to what is causing the trouble. |
