Campus Crap

This is a spin off of my other thread I made, im curious if anyone has some concrete information on ways of connecting to a game (WoW) from a campus dorm room and being able to play without a ping of 6000+. I am currently able to play and the ping jumps from 100-6000 and makes it un playable. Im guessing since we are on campus we have a high broadband connection (t1 or t3) but not sure why there is such a variance in the ping.

I don't know how to help you. Have you tried playing on other people's comps in different rooms? Maybe it's just a shitty connection or something.

I just checked my ping on WoW from my dorm here at Clemson and it seems to stay around 60-80. I think it's about like that depending on the server when I play CS, DoD, etc.

We had a bunch of trouble here at UCSB. Right around the time they closed Closed Beta they made some change that made it impossible for us to log on. Took our tech guy like 3 weeks to get it resolved (with all us nerds bitching at him) but finally it works perfectly.

Do you have a messageboard or any other way to contact your server op? I mean, it's either ask them to open ports or try to bypass it yourself, but if they're not nice enough to open the ports I doubt they're going to react kindly to your subversion, so...
