Knives?

I generally carry around a knife, or did till a couple days ago. Long story. It was a three inch blade, folded out from a handle with a clip, had a straight edge at the front and a serrated edge at the back. I got it way back before internet shopping was The Thing and the place I got it out of business. Shame.

Anyone know any good places to buy knives on the interweb?

If I was going to carry around a "weapon" I'd carry around a gun. I just use my knife as a tool. Opening boxes, trimming my finger nails, and a hundred other things. It's useful. I've never taken it out when I got into a physical confrontation.

That said, people who DON'T carry around weapons scare me. What the fuck is wrong with those people? The world is dangerous.

Having been in situations where I got jumped by three unarmed people, I must disagree. The world is dangerous because PEOPLE are dangerous. A weapon, in and of itself, is a method of extending or concentrating energy to inflict harm. A tool does precisely the same thing, only for a non-violent purpose. Weapons are a sub-category of tools. Someone has to USE the tool though.

But honestly, if the entire world took the attitude that weapons, and the hypothetical violence they represent, is wrong, it would take ONE PERSON who disagreed to take over the world. Disagree with him, he'll kill you and you can't do anything about it because of your beliefs.

If I wanted to carry a half pound of metal in the bottom of my pocket I would do just that. Instead I carry this . It fits in a pocket on my wallet so I dont worry about loseing it. I have a knife when I need one which turns out to be fairly often as well as three basic accessories which see a lot of use. Like most people I keep a tool kit in my car and not in my pocket.

Well, I live in England, see. There're laws against guns, and they're trying to bring in laws against knives. Yeah, I think that's a little extreme if it involves pocket knives.

But what the hell are you doing carrying one around? Think about what that MEANS. Forget for once your internet bravado, your macho "YOU'RE A FAGGOT WEAKLING" persona for just a second, and imagine having to actually use the thing. Someone threatens you, and you pull it out, and they're not scared. What comes next? Do you drive it into them? Do you hear the scream as the tip goes into the skin, and do you enjoy it? Or do you realise the amount of pain you've just inflicted?

I'm not saying this because you deserve to be in pain, or that someone attacking you is right anyway, but there's a lot to think about (to me) carrying around a weapon like a knife or a gun. You could very easily kill somebody, and that sort of weight behind something would probably make me hesitate to even buy one, let alone carry one around for fear of a dangerous world.
