No, you're both wrong. Considering you can kill someone with a knife almost instantly, it's small, and you can legally buy/wear it, a knife is a good defensive weapon for so many reasons. No matter what weapon is in the hands of the attacker(s), save a gun, he is going to think twice if you have a knife.

I'm not saying this because you deserve to be in pain, or that someone attacking you is right anyway, but there's a lot to think about (to me) carrying around a weapon like a knife or a gun. You could very easily kill somebody, and that sort of weight behind something would probably make me hesitate to even buy one, let alone carry one around for fear of a dangerous world.

I said, previously, that when I get into a physical confrontation I don't take out my knife. I use it solely as a tool. The few times I have gotten into a fight I, not that anyone will believe me on an internet messageboard, use my martial arts training. Ai-Ki-Do, Tai Kwan Do, some Judo.

Styles which primarly focus on disabling without killing, at least the way I learned them. I picked those styles for just that reason, I don't really want to kill anyone.

Though if it comes down to a choice between someone attacking me dying and me dying it's not a choice I'd hesitate over.

A knife is a poor choice of weapon to carry around for self defense anyways unless you are properly trained in using it.

If you don't know what you are doing there is also a good chance you will have the knife taken off you. Also if your attacker has a knife you will both probably end up getting cut.

For most people a nice thick stick is a better weapon then a knife for self defense. If you are actually being attacked by someone armed with more then just their fists your best bet is to haul ass regardless.

You could set up a sealed lab, and inside place a loaded handgun. Now hire some fool to sit there and monitor the gun. See exactly how long it takes for that gun to kill somebody. You'd better be prepared to hire that guys grandson to continue watching the gun. Ge tmy point?

It's fair to say that if you remove the hand gun from the equation, it will easily be replaced (by the human) with another object which can be used to inflict harm. This was proven on 9/11 a few years ago.

Take it one step further and remove any instrument, leaving just the person. That person would find a way to inflict harm with his bare hands. It's being done even as we type.

So if it doesn't matter what instrument a person is using (if any), then how can it be justified that it's the gun that is causing the danger?

I'm all for gun control, and that's for making sure the RIGHT people have guns, not the WRONG people. If I have to prove I'm a fit person to own a gun, so-be-it. A small price to pay for that right. I did more aong those lines to obtain a drivers license for christ sake.

I open boxes all the time at work and never have I been more than a couple feet away from a pair of scissors or a box cutter. No need for a knife. Oh yea and you can buy these things called fingernail clippers anywhere, they cost a lot less than your knife will, and you can keep them in your bathroom where all personal hygiene should be done.

There is no reason to carry around a knife other than to make you feel fucking tough. Yes the world can be a dangerous place. But you also have a fucking brain and can find ways to not get into these situations very easily. I have been beat down with fists many times and there isnt one fight I can think of that I would want to go back and slice or kill the fucker(s) that I was fighting.

Guess what tough guys, you will heal pretty fast from a beating with fists, may not make it out from a knife wound.

Use your brain and the world isnt that scary! Stop believing everything your read and see on tv, there are still good people out there that dont want to fight you.

I work at a nursing home. Kinda hard to keep a box cutter handy since it cant be anywhere where a patient might get ahold of it. Like my knife thx.
