Another Flash Question - Background images that fade transition on button click!

Alright, here's what I am trying to do:

Each time someone clicks one of the menu buttons on this Flash site, I want it to change the "full browser" sized image that is the background. So you click "Services", and the image in the back fades from img1 to img2. You then click "contact us" and the image goes from img2, to img5.

I can't do it with tweens or timeline shit, I know it's gotta be in AS. Right now, I have it just ghetto'd in with a movieclip that has a timeline with each image, and each menu button has at the end "_root.backgrounds.gotoAndStop(1)" or whatever frame number corresponds with whatever image I want for each section.

It just looks bad having the images instantly change.

If there are any Flash or ActionScript wizzes hanging around, I'd gladly trade you my expert artist and design skills in exchange for some AS and Flash help.

You could animate a fading-in/out black object at the beginning of every movie clip, then just gotoAndPlay(1); and on frame 24 or whenever the new image is faded in, just add a stop();
