LMHOSTS File

I have a very limited connection at work and find myself getting hung up on sites frequently that require accessing ad sites (google-analytics, doubleclick, etc), so I want to block traffic from them. After researching a bit, I think the best way to do that would be to add entries to the LMHOSTS file redirecting those domains to 127.0.0.1.

1) Is there any easier way to do this with Firefox?

If not then...

2) What would the entry look like to do this?

127.0.0.1 localhost #PRE #DOM:yahoo.com

is what I thought, but that's not working.

Have you tried just:

127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com

That's all I've ever needed.

I put that line at the end of the LMHOSTS file except with yahoo.com and I can still go to yahoo.com. I made sure my connection is using LMHOSTS file under TCP/IP settings. Not sure what else to try.

Only blocks images, which I can do easily with Firefox. Thanks for the attempt though!

Wrong, it blocks everything: iframes, flash, etc.

127.0.0.1 blatsnarf.net

worked just fine in the hosts file. I'm not sure why my research pointed to lmhosts instead of hosts.
