Looking for MS DHCP help

Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out how to set the logging on our MS dhcp servers to log Weekly as opposed to the default daily rotation. I also want to have the log files save 12 weeks then start back overwriting Week 1, then 2 and so on.

Is this possible? Any help would be great.

PS - why couldnt our dhcp be *nix based, the loggin possibilities are so much easier and broad.

You can try looking at the keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\DHCPServer\Parameters to see if there is anything you can change that meets your needs. Usually the log rotation is set as a max size though.

Here's another question, why couldn't they be *nix based?

It's been a while since I've touched ms dhcp...but I don't think you can change the frequency of when it logs, only the daily log file size allotment...as for keeping them for 12 weeks, you would have to write a script or something that runs to copy the logs to an alternate location, or to rename the log files so that they aren't overwritten. Simple little batch file on a schedule should do the trick just fine.

I think a simple VB program, if you know VB, would be a better option. I can't think of simple command line that allows you to check if its week 12 and needs to be overridden.

I could be wrong though.
