| I would expect more like 180 man hours required to complete that project for someone that is new to databases and has minimal experience. I would say 6 working days with a team of 5 working 8 hours a day. 4 if they were more experienced with the technology. How much time were you given to do it, and was it in a group? |

| i did myself, but i had quite a bit of experience in database work beforehand. it would be about 4 weeks of good, hard work doing it alone. if you're completely new to database programming and design in general, give yourself more time. edit: the time consuming part of that project isn't so much the database work, but the design of the windows forms. so if you're only interested in pure database design then make the forms as minimal as possible (or don't even make them at all.. just run the sql commands on your database tables), but otherwise spend the time. it's a great lesson in .net forms programming. | Is any CS student here looking for a project/task for fun, that would help him in the future? I just finished my CS major and I have been working on the filed for over a year. One of the mayor problems i had was the lack of connection between educational setting and real world applications. So if anyone want to write a couple of apps, i can come up with some scenarios, note that this is aimed for a experienced c#/Vb coder ASP.Net It will involve SQL development.Target audience will be senior CS students. PM or post here. |
