FoH forums blocked by SonicWall?

So, yeah, couple of months ago, when attempting to get to the FoH forums, got the "dreaded" SonicWall page telling me that the link is considered to be in the "Porn" category.

Is this something that was done at SonicWall's level(i.e., FoH was added by SonicWall) or something custom done by a network admin?

I couldn't think of any threads with 19,000 posts that could get the site labeled as porn

not to mention the FSR

My guess would be that the label "NSFW" in the description of the Screenshots forum set off a word filter of some sort. Either that, or your office IT guy belongs to a crappy guild and is jealous.

Must be the NSFW tag that Millie mentioned. When I came to work this Monday, Screenshots was shut out for me? =(

I am a sad Panda...but oh well.

Yeah it's the same for me at my workplace. All forums are viewable, cept Screenshots - but really, that's probably for the best.

Happened to a friend's site. There's a part on sonicwall's site where you can request category change or whatever, took care of the problem. Try calling them if you can't find it

Here's the link by the way to anyone else being blocked by sonicwall stuff: SonicWALL Internet Security: SonicWALL Content Filtering Service Software Protection

I submitted a request for FOH to have its category changed, hopefully it helps

I'll never understand keyword-based content filters. Don't 99% of all Internet sites contain the word "porn" somewhere in their text? Hell, don't 99% of all Internet sites contain porn?

Makes it easier to block them, when you consider that 99% of the Internet isn't relevant to most work place environments.

If it works anything like Websense here is a tidbit of info:

We were having problems with our manufacturer websites getting filited and categorized as something other than automotive (something similar, I forget the category). It was getting cat as "shopping", "sports&entertainment", and a few different things which we have blocked.

So we called up websense to bitch. It turns out that they dont actually filter then URL such as mybusiness.com, Up At Six HTTP Server Test Page, etc. The filter by IP hosting said site. Researching a bit further we come to find out that large companies will have mutiple servers hosting their websites, so pinging a url such as Lexus: New Luxury Cars and SUVs from Lexus USA might actually resolve to several different IPs. The problem with this is that on those same servers (IPs) they also host other websites from companies large and small. So say if you hit an IP that is hosting Entertainment Weekly's website along with Lexus website, it will get categorized as "entertainment" across the board for all the sites, regardless if they are actually entertainment or not.

We have SonicWalls in our network, but I am not sure if they operate the same way Websense does.

Is your problem fixed? At the office a few weeks ago I noticed this (around the time of my post) and submitted the category change and was able to browse again at work. Any luck for you?
