Editing titles of threads?

I'm just curious as to whether the ability to edit the title of a thread you start is disabled or is it not a feature of the board software to begin with?

There are two titles stored in vBulletin, one is the thread title, the other is the post title. There's also a thread title edit timer. When you use the normal edit interface, you're only editing the post title inside the thread itself and not the actual thread title you see in the forum thread listing, unless you do it before the thread title edit timer expires. If you want to edit the thread title after the timer is up you need permission to access the "Edit Thread" command from the Thread Tools menu (which normal users don't have access to here).

Hope that made sense... vB is kind of retardedly overcomplicated in that area.

If Req is able to allow you to edit the title, cool.

If not or until then, if you want a title editted, send me a PM with the thread URL and the desired name, and I'll edit it.

I think you should limit that service to people requesting to have the titles of their own threads changed. We shouldn't go around letting people change other people's thread titles. I'm sure this is what you had in mind, anyway, but I just want to make this point clear for everyone.

Not sure how it's set up here, but typically users can edit Thread Titles for a little while after posting. To check, try double-clicking next to the thread you just created, on the threadlist page. It should cause an edit box to enclose the thread title, at which point you can edit it.

Might not be enabled here, I dunno.

I've thought about that, but sometimes someone would make a thread in MMO general with a really shitty title but a decent quality post. Someone else in the thread would suggest "Hey, make this title not a piece of shit." and I would do it.

Basically, if you want your own title changed, I'll change it no questions asked (Within reason), but if it's someone else's title I'll change it if it makes sense.

For example, my old pal Flight made a thread a while ago with the title "MMO Boxing" and everyone bitched about how it should have been multi-boxing or dual boxing etc (Since everyone thought it was an MMO boxing game coming out, which is a terrible idea btw).

I often change titles in MMO General and add the name of the game [UO], [EQ] [WoW] etc before them just to make the forum cleaner, but like Millie said I won't be changing other people's titles for no reason.

It's not. I believe that's the same permission as getting the Edit Thread item in the Thread Tools menu, but I'm not certain on that one.

Tuco -- start by putting a 'u' in the Borne (sic) Ultimatum thread. It's been driving me batshit insane for weeks now.

are you guys serious? you CAN edit your thread title.

When you click on Edit, click on Advanced Edit and it gives you the option of changing your thread title.

Only for the first couple minutes after you create the thread. After that you can only edit the post title, not the thread title.
