There's lots of others.. just do a little homework if you choose a site other than those two. As for the strain, just pick a decently known one or one from a respected/known grower (sensi, serious, whatever.. read reviews) I'd pay a little extra for some decent seeds, but in the end it mostly comes down to how well you grow it.

Also, I'd seriously look into getting feminized seeds, especially if you're only going to be able to grow 1-2 at a time. Nothing is as big of a let down as discovering after 2 months or whatever of work that all the plants are male.

Let's say I buy a pack of 10 seeds, how should I divvy them out? Like, 2 per pot in case 1 doesn't make it or what? The closet I'd be putting them in is about 5 square feet, so I could safely fit 4 decently sized pots. I'm going to aim for around 5000 lm worth of HPS lights (I'm hoping the dude at the hardware store can tell me what I'd need).

I've read that I want non or lightly fertilized soil to start with. Is that right?

I'm not sure how bad the smell is going to get, but I hear it can be quite a problem. I'm in an apartment; while I'm not especially worried about getting busted, I'd rather not skunk up my place. Ventilation won't be very possible (at least not without some major rigging). I hear a simple Glade plug-in can do the trick, but I might need to go with something more serious. Got something cheap?

I'll try to head out to the hardware store on the weekend and might take some pictures of my setup (if it happens).

If you germinate the seed in a paper towel before planting it in the soil you'll probably have like a 90%+ success rate. You can just put the seeds between 2-4 (on each side) moist, but not dripping, paper towels and then put the paper towels inside a ziplock bag. Put the ziplock bag somewhere dark at room temperature, and check on it every day to make sure the paper towels are at least fairly moist. Don't oversoak it though, you shouldn't have to rewet it much if at all (the paper towels should never be dripping wet). Once the white root starts poking out, you can plant it with the white part pointing down about 1cm deep. 90% of the ones done this way will sprout in my experience. And you can always start them in smaller pots then move them over to the big pots.

Erowid and others have good guides you can follow for growing that will probably be more helpful than me as I've never grown indoors.

honestly be ready for a lot of work with growing your own pot. In later stages you'll have to deal with smell control (need charcoal air filter) and constant light/temperature control.

i personally did all the research and planning and gave up on the idea.

i went the home grown shrooms route. Much easier to hide (did in a dorm room) only difficulty is keeping the environment sanitary.

I went and bought all the hardware I'll need (I think) except the light. I was looking to buy a 100w HPS lamp but none of the stores I went to had them. It looks like I'm going to have to order online, but those things are fucking expensive.

This looks like my best shot. Anyone see anything obviously wrong about it?

Oh, and I still need to order the seeds. I've heard way too many opinions about what I should get and where to get it from, but I probably can't go wrong with feminized brand name seeds (which brand? Who da fuck know).
