+25 Internets | I imagine Playboy clothing money is better suited to forums with a higher than 4% female population. Now if they were trying to sell subscriptions to playboy's magazine or website or whatever, I could understand that. Most users of this forum that click that link are just going to go to that website, look at the pictures and waste Playboy's bandwidth =P

+49 Internets | Ok, a couple things. First, it doesn't seem that NSFW to me to have an ad to a store that sells clothing regardless of it's domain name, so please elaborate on the NSFW thing cause I must be missing something. Second, this one ad, with a very low rotation weight, that is only being displayed on fohguild.org, is nearly singlehandedly outperforming all of the rest of the ads combined on every domain name on the Uberguilds Network in terms of clicks. It was displayed 5,572 times yesterday and clicked 60 times which puts it's click-through rate at 1.08%. Compare this to the 240 clicks on the other 471,536 ad impressions and it's pretty obvious that it's not exactly being ignored. Yesterday's average CTR including the playboy store's stats was 0.06%. I don't know how much money it's making yet. It's true that males won't be buying stuff for themselves, however, I think that a whole lot of people are buying stuff for their wives/significant others/etc. The idea that people won't be able to visit the site from work does concern me, so please go into more detail on why the playboy store ad showing up on fohguild.org is a problem for workplaces.

| It happened to me once. Government computer, of course. Normally those are pretty lenient in my command - not much in the way of content blockage, but a shitload of monitoring - and I lurk around this board generally constantly all day. The same day this thread popped up, there was a point in time that I clicked up fohguild, and I saw the 'This content is blocked due to being in the category of "Pornography" or some shit screen instead of my favorite Ogres and co. up there. I almost shit my pants, I thought the US Gov internet blockers or whatever the fuck finally caught on to screenshots. Which I won't even go into at work just for that very reason. I quick closed that shit out (trying to view porn on gov computer = direct trip to unemployment line) thinking I somehow fucked something up, clicked up fohguild, and all was normal, never happened again. Then I saw this thread and thought to myself, 'ah, all is well, must've been the playboy ad triggering the government oh shit button'. Didn't think nothing of it, since I didn't get fired, heheh. So yeah, maybe once or twice a month I would get affected by the old Playboy ad. Possibly the military dudes and dudettes as well or anyone else who prowls here at work from a gov't comp. |

Not that all content on this board is NSFW, but you have to assume that an MMORPG-focused site will have its share of questionable material cropping up in unexpected places. For that reason alone, and completely regardless of the banner ads, I'd hesitate before browsing this site on a heavily monitored computer. Hell, I'd hesitate before browsing pretty much any non-work-related site all day on a heavily monitored computer. ![]() I, for one, rarely check this board at work, and I know pretty much every way to avoid accidentally opening up something sketchy. Maybe I'm just paranoid -- but like you, I work for a company that monitors computer/Net usage very closely. For those of us in similar situations at the office, this board (and other boards like it) may occasionally have to wait 'til we get home. | |

| Point taken Millie! I just brought it up because I had never seen anything like that happen before, and I've been reading this forum (minus screenshots, hehe) from gov't computers for years now. The main things our command looks out for are porn, using a government computer for personal financial benefit (day-trading, ebay, and the like), and trying to download shit or playing streaming video. Forums such as this are 'in bounds', so to speak, or I would have been fired a long time ago. Now, if I was spending all day checking out the variety in the PGT...well then, the men in dark suits would be taking my hard drive. I stay clean of that, though, hehe. ![]() |

+25 Internets | A decent compromise would be to get playboy ads that aren't as revealing as the ones we have now. The kind of people who browse these forums at work are a large market of people we want browsing these forums, and to dissuade them with provocative ads may not be the best course of action.
