1: Making new sub-category for Millie's movies/music/tv/books
2: combining the Rim Job Arena, Rickshaw hall of fame and SS hall of fame into one forum "Hall of Fame"

I see what you're saying, and there's a certain logic to it, but I disagree for the following reasons:

1) RE: Millie's ____ House forums -- We have enough difficulty as is trying to keep people from discussing these media topics in other forums (Screenshots, General, etc.). Creating a new sub-category will only further bury the forums in question, and/or create more confusion/clutter/category creep than is necessary.

2) RE: Combining "Hall of Fame" type forums -- I fear that combining everything -- good and bad -- into a "Hall of Fame" will only serve to glorify the retarded shit that ended up in the "bad" Hall of Fame forums to begin with. Suddenly, "Rickshaw Hall of Shame" material would end up in a generic "Hall of Fame" forum -- thus changing "shame" into "fame," and reversing the very idea behind the "Hall of Shame" to begin with. The idea is not to celebrate, but to denigrate the retardedness that ended up in these forums.

1. I would like to see RSS feeds on a per-forum and per-subcategory basis, so imo a subcategory for the Millie's forums is a necessity.

2. Personally I think every one of the posts in all those forums would be fine in a single forum called Retard Rickshaw Hall of Shame. Even the "Hall of Fame" ones are really damn retarded. Or if you want to leave them separate, then toss them and the Rickshaw into a subcategory that people can collapse and never have to see again (or at least that's what I'd do).

That's actually a very good point. Whereas I do have a problem with aggregating all the Hall of Shame-type stuff into a single "Hall of Fame" forum, I don't have any issue with dumping it all into a single "Retard Rickshaw Hall of Shame" forum. The latter seems capable of encompassing pretty much everything that presently lives in the various Hall of Fame/Shame-type forums.

Forum creep has been a pet peeve of mine for awhile now*, and the sheer number of un-postable "Hall of Shame" forums on these boards is a little bewildering. To the best of my knowledge, most of the Hall of Shame forums were Furor's creations back in the day, and are relics from a time in which they may have served unique purposes. One can certainly call into question the relevance of a forum like the "AL/LoS/Triton/Non-FoH Uber Guild Rim Job Arena," for instance. This was a forum created to serve an EQ-era need, and we're at least 4 or 5 years past the expiration date of the forum's viability.







* Sure, you could make the argument: "But Millie, if you don't like forum creep, why have you created new media forums?" The answer, at least as I see it, is that each "House" forum serves a very different audience and purpose. There is a lot of overlap among the House forums in terms of userbase, but there is virtually no overlap by category or topic. This alone seems to indicate that the separate forums, in this case, are warranted.

Also, Vorph, you make a very compelling case for new sub-categories. I'm still not 100% sold on the idea, if only because I'd hate to see the boards become even more lengthy and unwieldy to navigate than they are at present. But I think your reasoning is valid.

It's great to only get threads from the forums I read, and seeing the most recent replies instead of just the most recent thread creations is much more relevant imo. Not the most elegant solution, but it does the job.

Subcategories are still cool though, if only because you can collapse the ones you don't care about and they'll stay that way.

Screenshots hall of Fame has mostly godawful fucking threads in it and as far as I'm concerned they could be dumped right back into SS and delete the forum. I mean "Reason to hate Pirates or Ninjas" -- what the fuck was he smoking? Just a relic from an era of modding gone horribly poor.

I wouldn't mind seeing the ricksaw, RHOF, SHOF, and rimjob forums maybe catagorized so they could be hidden.

Just a thought.

Some funny stuff goes on in Screenshots, and it acts like a holding pen for many of the retards that frequant here. Leave as is.
