| Credit Karma - Check your credit score for free I posted this in another thread awhile back, but thought I'd do its own thread as its a really nice service. There is a "credit simulator" after they get your score to show you how certain aspects will likely affect your score, etc. This service is completely legit. They make their money by offering you "offers" rated by other members after you get your score (You don't have to accept any of them). There is also an in depth "credit report card" which shows basics like "average age of credit lines", "number of accounts open", etc while comparing you to the rest of the members of credit karma. I think its US only (As in you must have a US mailing address to use it). Also my friend had some issues getting his for some reason, but I've used it for quite some time without issue and know several others that have used it without problems. Free Credit Score & Credit Reports. No Credit Card Needed Also note that Quizzle is another one you can use that pulls from a separate bureau, though its run by Quicken Loans, and I don't like them so I don't personally use it. Note that this site was also featured on the Clark Howard show [Source] Last edited by AladainAF; 06-21-2009 at 06:31 PM.. |

| Legit as in they won't abuse your info? Maybe. But Credit Karma has been discussed on Slickdeals for a few weeks now: Free Credit Report Summary & Free Score - Unlimited Inquiries - SlickDeals.net Forums The score they give you isn't a FICO. It's some TransUnion alternative that scores lower than FICO. It's probably not worth the time or risked personal information. |

Credit Karma gives me a 766. My official transunion score I got 2 months ago during a mortgage refinance was 779. Close enough for me.

And the discrepancies make it worthless in the end. There's not a big discrepancy for you, but for others the score is 50+ points off (usually down). Giving out personal information in exchange for a bogus credit score is not a smart thing to do, even if it's "legit" as you claim.

What you are saying is no difference than going on about how a FICO score is useless because its not a Fair Issac score. In fact, scores as a whole are not consistent. There is FICO, Fair Issac, NextGen, VantageScore, etc etc. All of these scores are "legit" and should all be "relatively close" and paint a fair picture of your score as a whole. All of which are used by misc. lenders. Its cool if you don't want to give your information and don't want to use it. If you don't then don't. But don't say that its a total sham and a worthless score. Its not. Its a fair representation of your score as a whole, and for fucks sake, its free.
