Um what? Yes they will.They have to by law. Pregnancy cannot be considered a pre-existing condition to be used to deny medical coverage.
Can you internet lawyer up and prove that? I'm curious, because my professor (who was an insurance agent prior to the PhD) made a specific point about pregnancy being considered a pre-existing condition.

that only applies to group insurance plans and i am pretty sure you have to be going from 1 policy to another.

If the debt is high enough there is a chance the credit card company will take you to court and the judgment may include a lien on your house/car/property. So you can't sell whatever it is until you pay them back and they could potentially take action on the property.

Utah - Up to $20,000 in value, but only $5,000 in value if property is not primary residence - area limitation of 1 acre Utah Code, §78-23-3

Title 78. Judicial Code, Chapter 23. Utah Exemptions Act

(3) A homestead is exempt from judicial lien and from levy, execution, or forced sale except for:

(a) statutory liens for property taxes and assessments on the property;

(b) security interests in the property and judicial liens for debts created for the purchase price of the property;

(c) judicial liens obtained on debts created by failure to provide support or maintenance for dependent children; and

(d) consensual liens obtained on debts created by mutual contract.

It doesn't sounds like any of your debt would fall under that but at your level of debt you have I'd suggest you get specialized help from someone that understands the laws in Utah right now.

Home construction might suck in S Utah, but my uncle just landed a big contract to build a school down there with his company.

In general it seems like as some areas may be declining, you can find other areas that are still growing.

Hey Zeste, go down to whatever State office is necessary and apply for Medicaid right now. Show that you cannot afford health insurance, and they will insure you for the duration of the pregnancy and a few months after (until baby gets all of it's mandatories taken care of).

Also look into some sort of help or assistance for your Autistic child, if there's any sort of SSI or whatever you can get to help ease the burden.

The above won't fix your problems, but it might give you breathing room, and will ensure that at least your pregnant wife is taken care of. Don't be too proud to ask for help in the form of Medicaid.

You honestly don't want to have a baby on cash, unless you can get a plane ticket to Thailand, where it only costs $2,300.

For starters, neither Visa or MC issue cards directly. You owe your credit to the bank that issued your card.

health insurers cannot consider pregnancy a preexisting condition. so, unlike illnesses such as diabetes, they can't deny you coverage when you go from one job to another and switch health plans.

hippa doesn't apply to someone who previously had no health coverage at all and then gets into a group health plan through a new job. so if you had no insurance, got pregnant, then landed a new job with insurance, your new health plan would not have to immediately cover your pregnancy

i'd look into catholic charities and the lutheran social service as they often have reduced cost prenatal services available

Oh right ammo is really expensive.

Have you tried looking into government assistance or some sort of legitimate, public-sponsored hotline? I don't know if these things exist, but they should.

Bad financial decisions aside, some of this blame (and risk) has to be shared with the companies (cc companies, banks) loaning you money. Lending you money you can't afford to pay back and then suing to garnish your wagers and take your house is borderline predatory. In this political climate, take your chances in court if they won't work with you.

Anyway, I can only suggest some internet searches. Don't rely solely (at all?) on these boards for help. Good luck, man.

To answer the original question. They will just keep pestering you and that's about it. I have about three credit cards I just maxxed out and never paid them a cent. I get collection calls regularly and that's it. Just read up on the FDCPA and you can get them to leave you alone. It will trash your credit rating but that's easy enough to get used to.

When I was in college I had 3 roommates and all the bills were in my name. It made it impossible to pay bills on time and that's a habit you easily get used too. I had no real income source at the time and I regularly got offers for credit cards. I used them to live off and had no way of paying them back. I kind of figured.... They had no business giving a 19 old kid with no income a credit card, so fuck them... i will spend there money and never pay them back.

The increase in the price of a basket of common goods comparitively over time? Don't forget there's "core" inflation which strips out more volatile goods (oil/gas/energy mostly) from the overall calculation.

Sooooooo, now that we've had fun playing dictionary, why don't you go ahead and offer up any evidence whatsoever that inflation is running at 10% right now. Because from what I can see on a quick search, inflation is indeed zero or negative in the US right now and is forecast to remain so for most of the rest of this year.

Past that, we're getting in to crystal ball territory. No question that we'll see higher than normal inflation once the economy picks back up because of all the stimulus and money being thrown around. But that's nothing new, and I haven't seen anyone claiming double digit inflation.

about four years ago. I still get collection calls occasionally. I should also note the scale is different. I think the most I owed on any of them was like 1.5k. Total i probably have like 4k in unpaid CC debt.
