| Without a doubt, dog poo is one of a dog owners greatest problems. Sure, you can pick it up and put it in the garbage bin, but it sits in the bin for a week with a not so pleasant odour, attracting flies and harbouring diseases. And then along comes the garbage man and takes it all away. But where does it go? It is dumped in a landfill, where eventually it breaks down and leaches into our waterways ....YUCK!! Out of sight out of mind isn't a good attitude to take ..... this problem is a real threat to our environment. But now there is a more environmentally friendly solution! Turn the poo into a valuable product to enhance your garden! Worms are Mother Nature's cleaners. They will dispose of any organic material without so much as one complaint, recycling the poo into a sweet smelling soil product (worm castings, or worm poo). Lucky they don't have NOSES! The The Worm Swag is the perfect worm farm for dog poo. The Swag is fed from the top, and at harvesting time (Once the Swag is established you can harvest each week) the bottom is opened and the castings removed. The sides of the Swag are squeezed, a bit like a tube of toothpaste, and the castings fall through the opening into a bucket underneath. No need to even handle the castings. The bucket can then be emptied out straight onto the garden. Place some mulch over the top so the sun doesn't destroy the valuable microbes in the castings, and "Bob's Your Uncle". Great for potted plants, lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs! It is recommended that the castings from dog poo not be used on edible crops though. When recycling dog poo you need to add a carbon source such as damp shredded paper to help the protein in the dog poo to break down.
