| If I see an interesting topic come across the RSS, I open it in a new tab. If I like the topic and want to see updates, I leave the tab open and refresh it.
Is there a particular reason you close the thread? I leave some threads open for days at a time, until they don't get new posts within 24 hours or they degenerate into typical message board bullshit. Firefox automatically restores sessions if I reboot or End Process due to memory usage.
Occasionally, I check the handy Live Posts/Top Threads Uberguilds box at the top. This allows me to see any old threads that may have gotten revitalized (a la the epic Vanguard thread). If there was a way to "unsubscribe" to uberguilds boards I don't care about (CAFE, PTR, etc), it would be perfect.
Anyway, I agree that RSS has the potential to be a lot more useful. Subscribing to threads and getting emails is 20th century stuff. If I could subscribe to a thread and get an iGoogle full of stuff to read... I don't think it is possible with the current design and/or implementation of RSS. |
