In regards to Preacher, it was really quite a trip. God had abandoned things to wander the earth. A small town preacher named Jesse Custer had been imbued with the Word of God. (This allowed him to tell people to do things, and they HAD to do them, yet he didn't abuse this power or even use it much at all) He started wandering, along with his girl Tulip and an Irish vampire named Cassidy to find God and make Him resume his duties. It's one HELL of a tale. I recommend it to anyone who likes a well told story.
In regards to the R.A. Salvatore series, he gave his characters humanity. Fantasy is an area where anything can be. And although his descriptions of swordplay fascinate me, and his monsters scare me..... the "human" elements are beautiful in their way. He can weave a battle with five people and make it plausible, and also just have a halfling fishing by a pond and make it just as interesting. A lot of people are very good at one thing, and nothing special at others. Salvatore can take any situation and make you care about it, and make it interesting.
Ah well, what can I say, I suck at reviews and am hardly versed or schooled at them. |
