| For most musicians there is probably more money in being without a label than with one. Really, the labels only actively support and advertise the handful of big artists that they have. You have a more likely chance of ruining your music career by putting it in the hands of a big label.
I was thinking for a while that the record industry was going to morph into a distribution only type of industry. The nature of modern music is just so polarizing, sometimes I don't think the labels can survive based on the fact that there really aren't big types of music that are universally consumed these days. We're smack in the middle of a canon transition as well as a distribution revolution. |
