Institute these rules and we never have any problems ever again:
1) You don't get any honor until the game finishes. This includes hks, towers, etc. Store it all up and grant it in one lump sum at the end.
2) Remove deserter for afk'ing. Once 1 is in place and since there is ALWAYS someone to replace you, it's a non-issue.
3) If when the game finishes:
- you do not have at least 1/4 of the HKs as the person who has the highest HKs (note: HK, NOT KB), or
- you do not have at least ~2000 damage done per minute you have been in the game or ~2000 healing done per minute you have been in the game, or
- you have gone 4 consecutive minutes without being in combat, or
- you get 10 consecutive HKs without being in combat, or
- you have spent more than half of the game time on your faction's half of the map
you get no honor, no token, and a 2 hour deserter. If you get 3 or more of these flags during a 7 week period you are given a 7 day deserter.

I could throw in some more restrictions based on kb/hk/death ratios but it might screw over legitimately good players. Basically, fight or gtfo.

Problem solved.
