Oh it gets slow and way too experimental at times, but if you enjoyed Ergo Proxy it's pretty much up there. It's a great show with solid visuals and writing but I know what you mean. 15 eps is pretty much into the meat of the series and if you still can't get into it by then I doubt it would get more satisfying for you from there. Not a lot of shows out there like Texhnolyze, though; and we're already seeing a lot of its influence on newer shows (like Ergo Proxy).
Not a lot of folks are into mature/serious anime actually, a bit of a disappointment after the awesomeness of the 90's (what Roger Ebert called the second golden age of Japanese Cinema!). But at least we're seeing a lot of solid satires and comedies that aren't aimed at the typical highschool shounen/shoujo crowd. FLCL has been mentioned... but if you like oddball shit like FLCL then you really owe it to yourself to catch
Cromartie. But get the fansub.. that ADV version is censored to fuck and there's none of the batshit dialog that makes the manga hysterical. And stay away from the live action version.. far away.
