| Triathlon Training So I recently decided I would compete in a triathlon, since it's one of those things I'd wanted to do for some time but always made up some excuse to not follow through. This time I think I will actually stick to it, as I have been training for almost a month now.
I am intending now to do the sprint distance of next years Lifetime Triathlon in the Twin Cities (a pretty big triathlon, it seems). So I have almost exactly a year for training at this point...
So far I've only been running and doing weight training. I had been weight training for some time, but added the running. My thoughts now are to do sprints (HIIT) 2x a week for speed/explosiveness, and longer runs 2x a week for endurance. Then lifting weights 2x a week, with one day of nothing...
My bike is currently not working (a nice road bike I got as a wedding gift) but am intending to get that serviced and replace some worn tires and get new pedals so I can begin biking in a week or two.
I was just going to see if anyone else has, or is thinking about, training for such an event? If so, what motivates you to do it, what distance, and how are you training for it?
Anyway, if anyone else has some wisdom to share, or simply want to contribute for mutual motivation, please do. |
